You will not believe how powerful this baby is for an led torch using 3xaaa batteries at such a low price.

Try it with an 18650 and it might run brighter yet.

I love these torches on DE but there is SO much choice it makes my head hurt!

Might have to give this one a shot too though! Argh!

You wont be disappointed, at work after seeing mine today 3 colleagues also ordered one lol - they just couldnt understand how something so small could be so powerful!
The bonus with this particular one is that its multi battery fitment - i used those aaa lithium ones. from the reviews youre quite right, it probably would be even brighter with 18650's.
Dont go for rechargable aaa's though, they are only 1.2v rather than 1.5v of non rechargable - less volts = less light.

For work i use an LED Lensar P7, the spec of this torch shows it puts out 170 lumens of light which is focusable, i appreciate that this torch puts out more lumens but does that necessarily mean it will shine a focused beam over a longer distance than the P7.

Any techies out there with any answer for the above, i would prefer a correct answer rather than a guess. Thx.

better than 2x AA maglite single LED?

better than 2x AA maglite single LED?

Yes.

But to be honest i would go with the Romisen Lights.
This takes 3 AAA batteries. there are similar available which take just the 1 AA or AAA with about the same performance.

The romisen light is the R2-G2 or something similar.

The ultra fire are good though, much better than maglites so hot.

The romisen RC-G2 is only 100 lumens (according to the web) so less than half as powerful, also has a creamy yellow colour light (this one is almost pure white) and obviously wont last as long with 1 aa. Other than that I havent owned one so dont know any more about romisen. No doubt there are hundreds of similar torches out there, I only posted this one because I own it and have used it - also the 3 way battery layout is useful.
Also found this video, not that its that brilliant!

I didnt realise people got so techy about torches! Good thread.... very informative! I might buy one!

There are too many torches to pick from! wanted a good torch for a while now! Sounds like a lot of Lumens/Buck! I don't know which batteries to get with it though?

Ditto

Can anyone recommend a good AA or AAA lgiht with a decent spread (flood) rather than spot for use with mountain biking?

I have the peoples cree which isnt bad at 120lumens for £10, but would mind something over the 200 lumens mark.

I love torch threads, it makes you realise just how much you don't know about torches and how inadequate that 1million candles monstrosity you have plugged in in the garage is :-)

I'd love a mega bright torch but have absolutely no need for it whatsoever.

Not if it's properly regulated.

They will, of course, have correspondingly shorter run times.

The more concentrated the beam, the more candle power it has. So you could have a fairly weak light but all concentrated into a very tight spot would still give you a lot of candle power.
I'd like some decent properly waterproof LED lamps to use in the garden, at DealExtreme prices.

good torch, but for have to go for the romisen r2-g2 awesome torch, runs off cr123r re3chargeable 3.6v cells they only cost about £1.50 and last for ages. buy yerself a charger for cr123's the same time, much better life than aa's or aaa's....

b.t.w. for good reviews on torches sold by dealextreme.....

Oh man, you ain't seen NOTHIN' yet!
www.candlepowerforums.com

I've owned a few UltraFires (although not this model) and all the AA ones have randomly stopped working at different stages, requiring a strip down and rebuild and they spring back to life. There must be a short somewhere introduced by usage/vibration/switching/heat or something, but I don't know where. It's in ALL of them. I would think long and hard before buying another UltraFire now.

Also, for everyday usage, the AA Romisen is great, and for kickass-bloody-hell-need-to-find-needle-in-dark-haystack emergencies, I've got a Fenix PD30 like this one:
fenixtorch.co.uk/led…tml
It's the best torch I've ever owned. It makes my 8D incandescent Maglite (powered by Duracells) look like a candle.

I ordered the one you recommeneded on the deal last time from dealexstream just waiting for it to arrive.

FFs ........
I liked the post.... just ordered one.

The man is recommending them, not trying to prise your last penny from your tightly clenched fist!

Heat added!

I ordered the X2000 Flood-to-Throw Zooming Glass Lens Cree P4 LED Flashlight (3*AAA) yesterday on DX its only £8.50 and going by the reviews and pics of it in action,it puts most of the others to shame, throw wise and flood wise,i was gonna pay around £25 for a decent one but was strongly recommended this by a few flashlight fanatics on DX, the only downfall is that it is a plastic lens instead of glass as stated but still does the job better than most others (apparantley)

Im new to torch tech but would love one for a trip and general use at home after, im keen on one posted by OP but im not sure what battery's to go for and if i need a special charger or if a normal battery charger will do the trick, can someone advise me. also how long is delivery these days from DX?

Check out these Stanley LED torches. There is one for £30 which has three separable torch with a tripod. All the Stanley torches have a Tripod built in!

Worse than PS3/XBox fanboys! However, I have ordered a Fenix E01 and I shall soon be ready to slay any Maglite Fanboy with my 10 Lumens of power - or something!?! :whistling: Hot

That's a torch with an incandescent bulb - it will eat batteries, and I bet it's comparing it with an ancient LED lamp; the new ones are far more powerful.

One of the reasons I posted this particular torch was the fact that it took batteries that were easily available to most people in shops ie, aaa's. Im sure there are way more powerful and maybe cheaper torches out there, but not that many take regular batteries , especially from dealextreme.
You can buy the weird sized batts from dealextreme along with the charger, or just usee aaa's over here.
The reason i didnt buy batts from there was to keep the size of the package down, delivery takes about 1-3 weeks in my experience. Hope that helps
The aaa's fit in a neat little holder, if you choose to use them

Yes.... it out performs a surefire E2E - which has a mere 60 lumens, hardly on the same level as a 230 lumens torch.
nice find though, I like diy gadgets! have some rep!

Doesn't it remind you of something you made in Metalwork, Craft Design Technology etc classes at school??

I liked the review that said 'WARNING Do NOT look directly at the beam with your remaining good eye!!!' - made me chuckle. good torch though - buying one. thanks op.

Goose did the torch you buy really wow ya mates? when i have had enough of my X2000 im gonna buy another you see but its gotta have the wow factor! lol im more of a thrower lover as i believe distance beams look so much more impressive, also i have noticed that every Flashlight fanatic ive asked for opinions on their best light etc have mostly all recommended me a different light as their favourite, so it really is down to the individual when it comes to these babies,i ordered the X2000 because 3 different fanatics recommended it which was very rare in my investigations!! lol

Yes mate, but like i said if you dont mind buying/using the other sized batteries there are even more powerful ones on dx - its all a matter of how much you want to pay. Using aaa's is more convenient for obvious reasons.
This does keep a nice tight spot, rather than flood, I enjoyed lighting up the back of my neighbours houses- in the next road up from mine lol!
