Does have a few mixed reviews but think it's worth a shot at £5.

Great price but better if you can spend another £10 and get a cheap one that measures laser rather than ultrasonic
yep - laser then you can see what it is measuring. Waste of money otherwise
Ultrasonic OK for estimates but not for accurate measurements.
I have already ordered one though I have not collected it yet, as at this price it is well worth it.

From past experience they measure to solid objects, so avoid curtains. Anything in the line of site can throw them out so I concur you need to double check any measurems.
I'd agree that for an extra £10 a laser measure (off ebay/amazon etc) is worth considering. I imagine the problem with ultrasonic is that at longer distances the 'beam' will spread and you'll probably get an average of the area it hits (or perhaps the closest point). With the laser measures you know it's the point where the dot is.
Cold - doesn't work on the moon.
