Yes, I've gone through the list and surprised by many. Yet blade runner 2049 wasn't shot in 4k. It was almost 4k

OK I got the joke but this I don't get?

http://realorfake4k.com/my-product/unforgiven/http://realorfake4k.com/my-product/blade-runner-2049/Many old films were filmed in 4k, but films like blade runner 2049, new, futuristic setting, big budget did not get filmed in 4k

Ok you did not get the joke. Of course it can be 4k it was shot on film.

35mm analogue. I cannot see the attraction of paying £5 for a very old movie.
Old films weren't 'filmed in 4K' and just because modern films aren't always shot in native 4K it doesn't always prove definitive. Blade Runner 2049 is a stunning example of a non-native 4K title (albeit one derived from a 3.4K source and rendered from a 4K DI)

35mm would make an excellent conversion to 4k. Film is far superior. Most modern digital films are rendered at 2k for release especially the FX.

Now you take that back!
Maybe it's just great film done in 4k.... hence blade runner wasn't...

Concerts to 1080p and 720p well too. Yet decent movies need little enhancement.

Surely watching a great film in the best possible resolution plus HDR, just enhances the overall experience?

They are remastered from 16mm+ film to 4k. Anything shot on video or digitally lower than 4k will just be upscaled. So those shot on film can all be rendered to 4k. The only issue is the FX shots for older films. Very noticeable in Close Encounters for instance. In the Chris Nolan releases the FX were all re rendered in 4k.
Looking forward to lots of older films being given the 4k treatment as long as they can track down the original sources. Even Seinfeld was shot on film so theoretically we could get a 4k release.
You seem to be saying the 35mm original was downscaled to 16mm first.

I'll just wait for the 8k version
Looking forward to the broke back mountain remake with Clint and Trump

4k/8k scans of 35mm material are great, infinitely preferable to modern day tripe such as Thor Ragnarok

That would mean 720p+ also means 4K

Do you not understand anything about film? I have a degree in photography what is your qualification?
Please do some research.
Film will always be far superior to digital but it's expensive and more time consuming to shoot that way.
Well done. Now find some time to study maths and logic.

I have just illustrated the superiority of shooting with film for conversion to 4k and yet you just keep replying with stupid answers. Its ok to not understand and yes my degree does qualify me. I have a lot of experience shooting on film.
I hope you are just trolling me.
This explains it all for you howtogeek.com/199…ws/
Well then, stupidity comes in size 16.

How well does Super 16mm blow up to 4K? I only ask as I'm sure the recently released 'mother!' was shot on the format and I didn't think the 4K disc looked that bad. With such a grainy presentation, it can be helpful to have the extra bitrate that UHD discs especially provide, even for films shot on 16mm

Its equivalent to 4k and this article has a very good explanation howtogeek.com/199…ws/

On another note what is it with that other person keep trying to make me look stupid but making themself look foolish? It's baffling.

From wikipedia

Film gauge is a physical property of photographic or motion picturefilm stock which defines its width. Traditionally the major movie film gauges in usage are 8 mm, 16 mm, 35 mm, and 65/70 mm (in this case 65 mm for the negative and 70 mm for the release print; the extra five millimeters are reserved for the magnetic soundtrack). There have been other historic gauges in the past, especially in the silent era, most notably 9.5 mm film, as well as a panoply of others ranging from 3 mm to 75 mm.

So 16mm+ was denote the gauge from 16mm above which could be scanned from the negative to produce 4K resolution images.. Why do you not get that?
