are th fire service not still fitting these in for free :?

We sure are!

Yep, the fire service fitted 3 for me at zero cost.

Had two of them round. One spent the whole time looking at my wife's tits. The other made Keith Lard look like a daredevil.

Did do, probably cut backs now though. :whistling:

Free for council properties only?

I had these exact same ones all over the house UNICOM MODEL 50964 and when there was a fire in the kitchen none of them went off, smoke pouring everywhere, granted the others could get away but the one actually inside the kitchen was silent, battery was good etc.

I complained to Wilkinsons and heard nothing, after throwing Corporate mansluaghter they listened and they arranged me to send them back to UNICOM/Suppliers for testing :whistling: I told them that I want an independant test as there's a conflict of interest - Never heard back.

Thinking of getting them tested and taking Wilkinson on....

Be warned - Spend a little more and get a good quality one as it could save your life/house one day...I would not be surprised if these are reduced as a result of me kicking off with them lol

we supply and fit for free in cheshire fire service for anyone, check your local brigade before buying these

Stay Safe From Fire

As much as the price is more than reasonable, this is probably one of those items that you really shouldn't 'scrimp' on as it could potentially save your (and others) lives. I would personally give up a vice or two, to pay the added extra and be comfortable knowing that I'm 'looked over' as it were. I'm not suggesting going out and paying £30 for a single device, but I'd pay double from a company that was more well known.

Frankly, scooby555's mention above has somewhat shaken me, aswe are supposed to trust these devices to do their job. It could however, mean that the sensor was blocked / dusty and that's why it didn't work.

Mothercare (and others) are selling a FireAngel smoke alarm for around £7.99 but I'd personally opt for the Wi-Safe version for just a few pounds more. Comes with a remote alarm base station to test and what not. Tesco have it for just over £11 - direct.tesco.com/q/R…spx

He is right, we were lucky it was daytime and I smelt the smoke in my bedroom (a fair sized house) thinking someones burning something then looked out the window to see plumes of smoke pumping out the kitchen, first thing I thought B&*&^*& smoke alarm didnt go off and was furious, I had also tested mine initially by burning bits and it worked fine but for some reason the smoke didnt set the alarm off, seriously folks the deal is a cracker but dont risk your lives for a few quid, just pay and get a good make - I have first hand experiance with these rubbish cheapo units.
