ProtonVPN is a free VPN service that does the following:
- protects your privacy by hiding your IP address
- lets you browse the web securely (even on public WiFi)
- lets you visit blocked/censored websites

ProtonVPN is developed by the same team of scientists who met at CERN and created ProtonMail, the world's largest encrypted email service. We created ProtonVPN to give journalists, activists, and everyday citizens unrestricted and secure access to the Internet.

Why ProtonVPN?

✔ FREE

ProtonVPN is the ONLY free VPN service that has no privacy invading ads, no malware, no bandwidth limits, and does not secretly sell user data. The free service is funded by optional paid plans that come with more servers and more features.

✔ SWISS PRIVACY

Keep your browsing history private. As a Swiss VPN provider, we do not log user activity or share data with third parties. Our proxy servers enable anonymous browsing, protected by Swiss privacy laws.

✔ INTERNET WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS

ProtonVPN unblocks websites and unlocks content. Visit any site, stream any content, and download using any peer-to-peer (P2P) service. Use the Internet without censorship.

✔ NETWORK SECURITY

Our secure VPN sends your internet traffic through an encrypted VPN tunnel (using the IKEv2 protocol), so your passwords and confidential data stay safe, even over public WiFi or compromised networks.

✔ TRUSTED

Unlike other VPN services, we provide full transparency so you know who is running the service. Whether it is challenging governments, educating the public, or training journalists, we are well known for fighting for privacy online and contributing to the open source community.

ProtonVPN Features

✔ FAST GLOBAL NETWORK

ProtonVPN has hundreds of servers located all around the world, accessible via a single click. All servers are on high speed 1 Gbit or 10 Gbit connections.

✔ SECURE CORE VPN

Regular VPN services can be compromised if their servers are under surveillance. ProtonVPN prevents this by first passing user traffic through our Secure Core network in privacy friendly countries like Switzerland and Iceland. Thus, even a compromised VPN endpoint server will not reveal your true IP address.

✔ PERFECT FORWARD SECRECY

For security, ProtonVPN uses ciphers with Perfect Forward Secrecy, meaning that your encrypted traffic cannot be captured and decrypted later, even if an encryption key gets compromised in the future.

✔ NO LOGS

ProtonVPN is a no logs VPN service. We do not track or record your internet activity, and therefore, cannot disclose this information to third parties.

✔ TOR VPN

ProtonVPN integrates with Tor. With a single click, you can route all your traffic through the Tor network and access Onion sites.

able to download torrents

that a question or statement?
This thread has some weird form of gravity that attracts only clowns. I could spend a week just slapping you all down. Obviously, better things to do.

Proton* are from CERN. Which is where the f***ing web was invented. These guys are legit. Use it, pay for it preferably, shut up, go away.

iOS, lol.

Can't register. Can't complete human verification via email or sms, I didn't try to donate.
Unlimited for free? For how long? I use avira vpn currently (1 year free from HUKD post) which is really good, but I'll need a new one after that
Proton mail are one of the best privacy E-mail providers. I've been using the free E-mail for years and it's top quality.
I have a paid Mullvad subscription but if I didn't I'd be all over this. I wouldn't imagine you'd be allowed to torrent and it may be quite slow, but for what it's intended for it should be excellent.

Well, they only launched the product yesterday (Jan 17).
Proton Mail has been going for a few years. But it is crowd funded and the amount of email being sent (excluding SPAM) is far, far, less than it used to be and is much less than the amount of streaming data over VPNs.

Just ask yourself: who is paying for your "free" service and how long should you expect them to continue doing so?
I tried several VPN solutions a few months back when I needed to update an app that's only available in the USA. Selected USA as the "local" connection but each time I tried to download the app. It always said it wasn't available in my country...hmm

Exactly. Even if it’s anonymous data analysis.

That’s why I’d rather pay a little for good service and support. Not that they wouldn’t sell my data but at least there is reasonable doubt and funding from elsewhere
Free version Ok for email from one device, otherwise not much use and in fact there are better values vpns out there.

Try ra4w vpn, i paid just £20 for lifetime when it was on offer.
ra4wvpn.com/

I wouldnt trust it for banking (or anyvpn for that matter) but its fine to access sites blocked in the UK and torrents if i need them and its pretty fast. Atm its $35 for lifetime.
Heat from me
This has encouraged me to move away from Proton Mail for privacy.

Even if they sold aggregated browsing data from the vpn servers, would it matter? If they don't keep logs of user ip activity then it would be anonimized.
No need for a VPN.....

Joking aside - have a read of the Digital Economy Bill. It's pretty far reaching.

I find the governments position on the internet and privacy pretty worrying. It doesn't help that ministers and mps dont really have a clue about technology and the implications of losely worded legislation.

What exactly worries you about it?
Never had issues with PureVPN, but this is free... Hard to complain. I just worry how they make money? I'm sure they're not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts....?
