Thanks OP

Did you see they going to make google maps work offline inc voice directions later in the year

Imagine if humans manage to survive another 1000 years, it sure is going to be cool looking at all these photos.

Can't see on iTunes

Shame it's only up to 16 MP though.

Anyone found it yet?

Hey guys, there's a chest full of gold in the sea, why don't you go get it?

Google has all our photos

nice one

I'm not arsed. You got something to hide?

Photos below 2048x2048 have never counted towards your drive space limit.
None the less a canny (free) increase.

I assume you don't have any curtains in your house then? Considering you don't need to care for privacy?

Isn't this just the same as the photos app that comes built in the Google+ app?

surely Google can't use your photos if you untick the following

So photos less than 16MP will stay exactly the same?

I've looked through my back ups and the originals and can't see any difference even when zoomed right in. I only have a 13mp camera though. Great find OP

they still can, they just credit you as the photographer or author.

Google stuff always worth a look, and this looks quite tempting. Have some heat OP.

Great! Thanks for confirming that.
My camera's only 8MP

Probably ok for photos unless you absolutely need them uncompressed but pretty useless for videos unless you don't care about a huge quality loss. I uploaded a video that was 1080p and 10Mbps, not exactly that high a bitrate, the processed file they saved was 3Mbps.

It keeps the resolution, but removes too much bitrate, pretty much exactly like YouTube does. In fact the videos seem to actually be uploaded and processed on Youtube, just privately obviously.

Also what is it with Google and unclear names for products? First they change a store that sells a lot of products to 'Play' and now they name something that stores photos AND video, just Google Photos?

Apple store photos and videos in their 'Photos' app.
Maybe Google was just stuck for names...

That isn't the same though, Google aren't coming into your computer to take your photos, you would be willingly uploading them.

This is amazing. I just started paying for iCloud storage and that's expensive and no way near as intuitive. Cancelling that and moving over to this. I don't really care if Google knows stuff about me, I'm going to get advertised to either way I may as well get advertised things I might be interested in.

Haha I feel the same way. The data probably isn't handled manually anyway; is everyone afraid that computers will be reading data about them or something? There probably isn't much left for Google to know about us anyway - we might as well just make the most of what they offer.

Any easy way to get photos from Dropbox and box and put them all in Google photos at once ?

ive got all my photos in Gdrive. can I transfer them over to the photos app?

How long does it take to upload though? And also can you download them again at the same quality?

um i have been using this for 3 years? since google+ started at the end of the year they make you a video from your highlights. last year for the first of april you had david hasselhoff added to your selfies and hearts on valentine and snow if you shook your winter time pics.

I dont follow how this is new but its nice people know about it

your more than welcome buddy but why would you want to. plus do you take pics of your wifes underwear draw?

if you want kinky sexy pics i recomend not taking them with your phone. if you somehow believe that google or the police cant already access your photos on your phone...

Thought this was just what I needed, but needs IOS 8 and I only have iPhone 4. Anyone recommend a similar app?

The new bits are that it's no longer part of Google+ and that there is unlimited storage for photos up to 16MP and video up to 1080p (although both will likely be more heavily compressed from the originals uploaded)

People still take photos?
