You'll be lucky. Last time they had the offer on I wanted a journey from east to west. Any direct route involved another train operator for part of the journey. The only way to get it via this offer was to go north for more than an hour, then west, then south for more than an hour. I guess that's why they call them Northern Trains.

Indeed ......these offers are very good if you can make the most of what they offer, if it's specific routes of any sort of distance you want then they can be more hassle than they are worth.

If you wanted to go from Newcastle to Liverpool, you would have to go to Carlisle, then go either Leeds - Manchester Victoria - Liverpool or Preston via Barrow - Liverpool, take a good book with you, plus plenty of food and drink (alcohol is recommended!)
It's a better deal than previously in the North-West because some Transpennine routes have moved over to Northern - e.g. Manchester-Barrow, Oxenholme-Windermere, Blackpool - Manchester Airport, but when I've tried this before I've always found it near impossible to get over to Newcastle and back solely on Northern - and it involves slow trains with the ever real danger of a Pacer turning up.

contact johnstone press they will send out papers needed for cost and postage.
Fantastic Deal, Monday-Friday you can get on a Class 37 hauled train on the Cumbrian Coast, then do the Settle-Carlisle line too.
"Please contact Johnston Press on 0844 292 0216, where they will be able to order back copies of the relevant newspaper." from the FAQ page, I guess it might be worth it as 2 tokens allows 4 tickets to be bought (must all be for same day/weekend).
So it's one token per paper per day, so I would need 2 days of papers?

Also for kids under 5 is it free with fee paying adults?

What's a nice scenic train route as my two kids are Thomas tank engine mad.

You can get the same day's paper twice. The tokens are the same - and they'll probably be the same the next time they have this offer, so if you have any spare it's worth saving them.

None of the newspapers in the offer are sold anywhere near me, but when I was in Newcastle yesterday I bought six copies of the Chronicle to use the tokens for this offer.

Depends what you mean by scenic, and also where you're starting from. Northern's trains are slow so there are journeys where you might not be able to get there and back within a day.

The line from Leeds to Carlisle is considered to be the most scenic in England. If you do that I'd recommend then going from Carlisle round the Cumbrian coast for some good sea views.

A good scenic route would be:
Get the 08:49 from Leeds to Carlisle, arriving at 11:32. Then the 12:08 to Barrow, arriving 14:36. The 14:41 from Barrow to Carnforth, arriving 15:25. Then take a short walk to Booths supermarket for something to eat in their cafe. Take your Booths card to get a free hot drink. Then get the 16:32 to Leeds, arriving at 18:15.
