Finally, O2 are now unlocking the iPhone 6 and 6+ for free. I have just had mine unlocked, so can finally use it with a Three SIM for using abroad. O2 had previously restricted the unlock of the iPhone 6/6+

Finally..

Awesome thanks for sharing OP

Quick question, I bought my 5S on contract but now use a 6 that I bought sim free from CPW. As a result, it's locked to O2 (as I put my contract sim in) and I was just wondering would they still unlock it for free? Thanks.

Exactly same question for me too

Yes

I think you need to have had your iPhone 6 a year....

o2 not an easy network to deal with.

O2 network coverage is very patchy and irritatingly poor in execution. Very poor customer service. You would be better off with any other network

that's only pay and go phones and doesn't include iPhones. pay and go unlocking on O2 is £15

The phone haven't been out a year yet, so if that's the case then the person who posted this wouldn't of been able to unlock his phone..

O2 is the only network that actually works in my flat. The unlock only took a couple of hours after it was submitted.

Great just great now that I have left O2. I am sure others will definitely find this useful, so heat OP.

Considering I am in rural East Anglia, O2 have the best coverage and Vodafone is terrible, couldn't even get coverage with Vodafone outside the shop!. They installed 4G before all the other networks, and their customer service is top notch. The best bit of O2 is that you get rewards for your contract, like a free coffee at Caffe Nero through their Priority Moments app. Recently unlocked my 4S few months back on O2.

Unlocked my iphone 6 which is just 1 week old

Question: if I were to buy someone's upgrade handset from eBay/gumtree, would I be able to unlock for free even though I am not an o2 customer?

Or would the contract owner be the only one who could achieve this?

Never let me without contract owners details so I'd assume no, must be contract owner.

It was always free

Thanks!

No, it wasn't.

But this post is to highlight the possibility of actually doing it. It being free is an added bonus.

Free unlock is for pay monthly contract holders (?). As I understand it, to unlock free you need to have a current contract with them. PAYG unlock is not free. (Please correct me if I'm wrong!)
Also, the handset IMEI will be assigned to another person (the upgrade holder) which may cause a problem. To be on the safe side, get the seller to do the free unlock for you before you buy.
I had a similar issue with Vodaphone when I bought an ex-contract Iphone 5 which had previously been replaced by Apple under warranty. Even the contract holder couldn't unlock it, as the IMEI number did not match their records. I would always try to buy a phone that is already unlocked, as it can be a minefield.

Guys, does anybody knows will i get a free unlock if my phone is bought from ebay second hand, was on a contract as well.
The thing is that the phone went faulty and was replaced by Apple with brand new one, of course locked to O2.
I dont know the original owner details whatsoever.....
Cheers

arghhh! i paid £30 to have my iPhone unlocked last week...some code of eBay! Typical!

This applies to all other Makes and Models also. I unlocked my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 for free. You only need to be pay monthly on O2. Hope this helps.

will they unlock iphone 4 which I bought second hand but used with 02 pay monthly sim for long time and still got contract?

That is not true. Apple replaced phones are in the same state the original was. If it was unlocked it will stay unlocked, if it was locked to any network it will also be locked.

Thanks just requested

Yeah it doesn't appear restricted to the aforementioned iPhone models, just done my Galaxy

Smiller I am so happy you posted this because I had no idea!!
I am extremely happy I can now have an unlocked phone!!!!!

HOT HOT HOT!!!

Only have an iPhone 4s on O2 but was never on O2 as bought from eBay locked to O2 because it would work with my tesco sim. Got my 5s as an unlocked one from the ioutlet so no need to bother with unlocking. Heat added though

always been free

I just git my iPhone 6s unlocked from O2 even though they are not officially doing this. This is the little trick I used so try it as it worked for me. Complete the online form to unlock the phone with O2. Enter your IEMI number but state that it is an iPhone 6. I did it and I received a text 20 minutes later that read your iPhone has been unlocked. Try it at o2.co.uk/app…orm

I tried this the other day, on the next page it asks for something like security password characters and says (not from your web login password, but the password you use to contact customer services) I don't have a password for contacting customer service as afar as I'm aware, I ain't contacted them by phone before. I got my 6S last week from that mobiles.co.uk deal. I clicked forgot my password and it seemed to take me to a generic contact us form. Filled it in and there's no trace of it being filled in or acknowledgement that they got that. What's the contact us password? do I have to phone them? if so, do you know the number you dial from the phone.

Ring O2 on 202 and set a memorable password like name of your first school or something. They will do this over the phone for you. Then submit online form but remember type that it is an iPhone 6 not 6s. If you're lucky this will unlock it but post back to let us know how you got on
