I already have a contract (with o2), but need a new phone as existing one is about to die. This one looks OK for what I need. Thinking of getting this, signing up for a one month rolling contract @£25 and then cancelling after one month. Total effective cost of handset would be £95.

Am I missing anything? Any better way of getting this, or another cheapish smart phone?

You could also get this handset (unlocked) from Carphone Warehouse for £79.95 plus £10 top up (however, might be better popping into your local store and see if they let you do it as 'upgrade' as you won't need to buy a top-up - the fact you are on a Monthly contract means it might not work but worth a try).

Worse case scenario is you can buy online for £79.95 and purchase a £10 O2 top up and either use yourself or sell for £5 or so. If you go through Quidco you will also get £7 cashback.

No messing about with cancelling rolling contracts etc.

Hope this helps.
