*update* seems dell are having some issues sending out the VIP codes at the moment but if you chat with them on there web site or ring in to customer support they should make codes available for anyone having issues with not receiving the email with the codes. Dell are saying codes will now be sent within 24 hours so if you have requested codes keep and eye on your inbox.

Same laptop was £179.99 but sign up to dell VIP and they'll send you two 10% off codes instantly to use on anything on the site. Sign up is quick and easy. The price for a short period came down to £166 but I missed out and was just about to order at £179.99 when FleetFanatic (legend) pointed out this code system.

£161.09 for this laptop is a real bargain, brand new with warranty direct from DELL.

dell.com/uk/…top

If anyone is having issues getting the code (most people are receiving the code straight away) then please first check the spam/junk folder (newbs) and if still no joy just sign up for VIP again with a different email address and try again.

Try to hold off ordering at £179.99 if anyone is thinking of doing so. When you sign up two voucher codes are sent, if they are transferable then lots of people will have spare ones available. If someone could check if they are transferable it'll help the people who haven't yet received the email with their codes.

that is an insane price!

A bargain indeed, was too busy to post as a deal earlier, and thought it might be seen as piggybacking on the original deal as the VIP thing is briefly mentioned in there somewhere (albeit not that clearly!)

As I said on the other thread, another Xmas pressie sorted. And it's only July. Blimey.

Only has USB 2.0

For £161 for a laptop, is that really a deal breaker!

Very tempted, what's the fan like on these? i'm going crazy with a hp laptop at the minute the fan is so noisy.

No but it's a tad disappointing.

Sad individual? Or just not after a value laptop?

Well you could say it having a celeron processor is a tad disappointing, but seriously for £161 most people that are in the market for a laptop at this cost would not have any concerns or need for the speed of USB 3.0

Mind you, I think there'll be better 10% off opps ;-)

have you gone to checkout? I am with vip and my code didn't work as it can't be combined with other offers... ie £20 discount.

Are you going through the VIP store? You have to do that for the code to work. The two stores look the same but they are different.

No, I'm tempted by this. But I thought USB3.0 was pretty much standard these days.

Unless you want to plug in USB 3 external hard disks then there really is no other advantage than the speed that gives.

Discount works ok for me but only 1 of them but still cheap at £161 but I am still pondering.....

Code works, ordered one, be rude not to at that price. If it's crap my grandson can use it.

How much does the laptop weigh?

Bought this laptop and i'm now returning it because it will not connect to the wireless Internet
my other devices smart phone tablets etc no problem

I bought this at £166!

for the price it's great, I only want to browse the net really, was tired of mobile sites on the Nexus.

can't go wrong really for the price for a new laptop

got this a few days ago, works a treat for surfing and movies..

It is quite light, runs cool.

Only gripes are it marks easy with finger prints (it's like a matt rubber looking black), and the power lead is a little bit short.

Other than that, it's well worth £180 or less !!!

Heat from me.

Thanks just ordered through VIP site.Hot.

Note that it's difficult to join Dell VIP if you're retired.

Still a reasonable deal at £180 though.

If you want a dvd, usb 3 and bluetooth look at this one.

Good for net surfing, wouldn't ask it to do too much more with it's CPU and hard drive speeds.
Also, poor resolution display means you will be able to fit less on the screen resulting in excessive scrolling and oversized text

excellent deal if you are after 5 years old technology. Celeron dual core LoL.

Rubbish.

I ordered at £179 at the weekend and haven't heard anything from them since the order acknowledgement. Last time I ordered from them they cancelled the order and didn't tell me. Took multiple emails before they confirmed that too.

Its slower than a Pentium T4300 though which would have been the standard CPU on most entry level laptops 5 years ago.

does this have a cd/dvd drive?

Look, it's a "value" laptop for just £161. What more do people expect at this price point. I paid more for my Nexus 7 16gb which is just a basic tablet albeit the screen resolution is better. This Dell is a fully functional laptop that runs Windows 8.1, will run office applications and other programmes. OK it may not be the fastest kid on the block and it may not multi-task very well but it can do more than an IPad Air at a fraction of the cost!

If you want a core i5/i7 expect to pay double and treble this price so stop bleating. My PC has 2x USB 3.0 that I've never used and apart from external HDDs who is bothered anyway? I did buy a WD USB 3 1GB external drive but never really noticed any difference. Just bought a new internal HDD for back ups and the WD is now my time machine for my Mac mini running USB 2.

Although I don't really need a laptop at the moment I'm kinda tempted to buy this because it's so cheap. Will wait and see.

If I had the money to buy this, I'd swap the HDD out for a 128gb SSD and use the 500gb hard drive as extra storage (in a caddy of course) Then for around £210 you've got yourself a pretty nippy laptop.
