Routes involving:

Leeds
London King's Cross
Edinburgh
York
Newcastle
Durham and stops in between those.

If it's anything like last time, if you get in early, there are LOTS of £5 tickets even on peak time trains. Not much info on Virgin East Coast site yet but more info here: birminghammail.co.uk/wha…899.

Note this is EAST COAST not WEST COAST so you can't go from Manchester, Birmingham, Preston etc. You could always book this say Leeds to London for £5 and a Manchester Victoria to Leeds for £3 (£2 or less with railcard) to connect to it as long as you leave the minimum connection time you're covered in case of delay.

This sale is Virgin EAST coast, so Liverpool to Euston isn't part of the sale.

If you have the Virgin Red app you can access these fares now - 24 hours early

I won't use Virgin east coast ever again, customer service is non existent, last time i used them, the train was scruffy, seats threadbare & a very bad smell of sewage coming from the toilets, i emailed the md,who was on holiday, passed to some other manager, still no resolution 3 months later

T&C's: Travel is from 4 January 2017 to 10 February 2017, excluding 4 & 5 February (inclusive) - Although on the Virgin Red app there's tickets available for next week that are part of the sale. Strange.

Anybody know why 4&5 February are excluded?

Try remember to pop back tomorrow and check this out, thanks for heads up

can't see any promotional fares going London-Edinburgh

Great post - heat added! Try December for some of these fares too plus if you are clever you can find your way from Leeds to Manchester (and their really excellent xmas markets) for £6 return. Even if you are going to stations in between the fare is still better - just decamp at the one that you want!

Just a heads up for everyone. Tried to book the £20 return journeys between London Kings Cross and Newcastle and the fares appeared fine at first. I then tried to search again and the prices kept going up and finally became the standard normal prices (around £120) and were saying there were no more available. I even tried another browser and the same higher prices were being shown. Went onto another internet connection and then it suddenly went back down to £20. So if it looks like a journey has gone try from another connection and/or device!

You're right, title updated, many fares in December too, brilliant!

I can confirm Birmingham to London. Just bagged a return in January for £11 (£5.50 each way)

That's west coast and this is an east coast sale. Perhaps you mean you've used a railcard, as standard fares available permanently are that price with one.

No, I used the black Friday sale. I was going to post the deal here, but assumed this was the same thing?

hotukdeals.com/dea…061 there's that but that's only for first class! Are you travelling on Virgin (not Chiltern or London Midland) and is it no railcard?

Hmm, so I've had another look and it appears to be Chiltern rail. I didn't know Virgin's site also sold other company's trains (first time buying from their site). I guess the tickets were cheaper because of the advance booking, not any particular deal...

Fair enough, I guess. I'm still pretty happy with that price for a 1hr 40min train each way with no changes

all train ticket companies sell all company's tickets, a lot of people don't know this. They are all the same price on all sites, except for deals such as this sale. Chiltern is a hudden gem for Brum to London, make sure to leave time to look around Birmginham Moor St station, and London Marlybone when you arrive, absolutely beautifully restored stations! they make the journey much nicer than busy New St and Euston. The trains are nicer inside less claustrophobic than Pendolinos and have aleways had free wifi as standard. Some have plug sockets at every seat,.
