Updated 16/8 - Looking for Cheap / Free or Ideas for Days Out in the Summer Hols 2017? Hope these help!

Mod & Ed
Think like many people I look at the summer holidays as a double edged sword, on one hand, I love the kids being off (well at least for the first 10 days) but I'm always in a quandary what to do with them, everything is so expensive, even a cinema trip these days needs a few gold teeth ripped out & sent to cash4gold! Back in my day I was happy with a bag of chips in newspaper so I could read it whilst I ate & a stick to whack around aimlessly, but I'm told by my kids that's why I've ended up chubby with inky & splinter filled fingers, they want more out of life it seems. Anyway since I'm waffling, I've put together a few offers / ideas / deals & freebies for the summer hols, hope they help & feel free to add any you know of!

To all the working parents, what do you do with your kids during school holidays when both parents work full time?
Growing up, my mum was a house wife so we always had a parent around. Now that I'm a full grown human, I do ponder what parents do with thier kids when they are off for 6 weeks and no longer being looked after at the free childcare we call school.

My children are all in paid childcare with a childminder. For one week of the holidays they visit their grandparents which reduces the price of their childcare to half price for that week. Hubby and I also take a few days off each to spend a week doing bits with them. I wish I could do more but as a working parent it just isnt an option.

Hulls 'the deep' free for rest of year after you've paid for first visit (think about £8/adult). They ask for a donation as they're a charity but not compulsory.

my kids used to go to a playscheme for 6 weeks and loved it. Cost us an arm and a leg but no choice with both working full time.

The Big Sleuth art trail in Birmingham. Absolutely free, my kids loved the Big Hoot and the Big Read, taking pics with all the owl sculptures and book benches the past 2 years. Also gets you out and about and to bits of the city you've probably never seen. Wild in art do these trails up and down the company, there may be one nearer to you.. wildinart.co.uk/events
