I know it's the thought that counts but as I've got older I've come to realise that you need to put some actual thought into the thought (if that makes sense!). What's the point in spending hard earned cash on something that will never be used & end up being recycled or given as a raffle prize the following year?
I've always struggled with gifts for parents & the inlaws, this year being no exception! So I thought I'd pop together this thread where we could maybe share some ideas, tips & offers, I'll add a few in as I come across them & PLEASE feel free to do the same, would love to hear what everyone else is thinking of buying.
I'll break them down into Men / Women & various budgets & pop some in comments too!

Brilliant, thanks

For parents and in laws, I prefer to give an experience rather than an unwanted gift. Usually order boxes of wine, spa treats, magazine subscriptions, mid-week break in Jan/Feb, theatre tickets with a pre-show dinner, etc... Always get good feedback! Great post by the way, should be useful to some, if not all!

I'm a parent in my late 50s and I genuinely like small things for Christmas like perhaps a book or bed socks bubble bath microwavable hot water bottles fleeces Christmas mugs with hot chocolate anything to do with Christmas that is warm snuggly and cosy

I would be happy with these presents year after year after year rather than expensive items

They can be any brand too I don't care if they're from Poundland or Ted Baker.

My favourite bath products are Dove and they are very inexpensive.

We have 2 children and what my aunty and uncle do is they but 1 gift for all of us....We've had a family day pass to Flamingo Land & family pass to Diggerland & a meal voucher for a child friendly restaurant. I think its a great idea what they do, its obviously easier than buying 4 different presents and we really enjoy spending a day out together as a family (which we dont always get chance to do). I have started doing the same thing for my sister in law and her family. You can often get good deals (sometimes half price) on family tickets if you do a little hukd/google search before booking. Hope this is helpful to someone

The Works have some nice knitted hot water bottles for only a fiver: Here
Superdrug sweet snuggles hot water bottle £5: Here
As do Dunelm: Here
Especially love this super cute owl one!

In our family of 8 adults (2 parents and 3 offspring and their spouses) we do Secret Santa. it may sound like a bit of a bore, but it works really well. My in-laws don't have to shell out for 6 presents for their children... in in later years that consisted of £50 in an envelope, which is against my principles of gift giving. Admittedly, it is the three female children and my MIL that do the gift buying, so it's really only SS between the four of us. But it's still fun. We have a £30 limit. No one ever wants to draw my father-in-law!
