Go to the Astronomy Centre which is next to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park This is free to enter. Your children can handle a 4.5 billion year old very big meteorite. They can play astronomy 'games' interactively. Some are so interesting mums and dads might like to try too! There is a small exhibition of the winning shots (some taken by young people) of galaxies and other astronomy related subjects.

There is a cafe where the prices aren't very high. Open 10-5pm.
The Royal Observatory (next door) is NOT free to enter
View the Cutty Sark from outside nearby.
Also the National Maritime Museum is free to enter with some special sections for children where the staff are dressed up as sailors and children can dress as pirates

Go stargazing live. Maybe better for older children. Free on the 16th and 17th of February. In some place near you see:

    See and try real telescopes!
This feee event is usually sponsored by the BBC, but this year they didn't help so Astronomy Societies and some Observatories throughout the UK are doing it themselves.
Lots of events happening round free! just click the link to see in your area

    Badgers Hill Farm & Cidery.
This is a friendly place near Chilham in Kent. They make cider here. But it is an ideal free place to visit for their animal farm. This is open every day (and I mean including Saturday and Sunday). Your children can touch sheep or chickens (carefully!) There are some more usual animals. Reas, lamas. It is quite big to walk around. It should keep them occupied for hours! It is very informal. There is a small childrens play area. There is a cafe which is also open every day 10-5pm. It seems a bit run down, but it's really excellent. If your children have never seen real animals close up then I can thoroughly recommend it. Food in the cafe is not expensive. I had an enormous piece of real homemade coffee cake!
If you have time! visit Chilham, a very pretty village at the top of a nearby hill. See Chilham castle (from the outside free) There is a quality souvenir shop (not the usual junk) A nice cream tea cafe (but not open every day)

Good list, I encourage folks who know to add more. Did the automation museum in Northern Ireland make it onto the list? Near Belfast somewhere it’s good.

There are quite a few included for Scotland as I did a Free Things in Scotland thread a while back & the link is in this thread, also included a link to a thread i did before with lots of free museums / places to visit in Wales. I genuinely have never been to N.I and not sure where to start looking for free / cheap stuff. Please feel free to add any in you know of

What a ton of effort! Stonking list... If you're in England.

Barely any Scotland ones as always. Likely same for Ireland and Wales? Always very England heavy on such threads.

In my area of Scotland we only get three days off. Mon 19 - Weds 21st.
Is it a full week throughout England?

    Heat rightly given 😁
