This is a deal for those looking to upgrade (retention).

I was disappointed by the deals being offered by Vodafone for upgrading my existing contract. The options given were worst than those being offered to new customers. So i eventually decided to cancel my contract.

The following day, i got a call from Vodafone asking if they could do anything to retain me. I had the O2 simplicity deal in mind (@10.99/m after quidco), and told them that i am moving to O2. They kept convincing me that there is no such deal etc etc.. but i stuck to my guns and asked for a cancellation. Finally they matched the deal by giving me a 12 month SIM only contract, for £10/month including 600 x-net mins, unlimited text and unlimited internet

So those like me who are not being offered a good upgrade deal, simply ask to cancel and they will try their best to get you back

btw, am not after heat/cold etc, but can those voting cold, plz explain as there is :

1- no reclaiming money via quidco/cashback etc involved
2- no long term contract like 24 months etc
3- no porting of numbers or any such hassle involved?

It is a deal only for a VERY FEW, but if not for you, then doesnt mean u have to vote cold

Hot from me mate.. like you said, better than the O2 contract and no relying on cashback.

Out of interest what phones were you after and what sort of offers did they make on them..

I can give my 30 days notice to Voda in a month and I would like a HTC device but don't want to pay more than £20 a month (with free internet) and nothing longer than 12 months... I know I won't get this though so gutted.

Im on voda too, coming to the end of my 18 monther...
What phones (if any) did they offer? sounds like a bargain!

I remember that there was a good upgrade 1 week ago. It's a free HTC Magic, 17.5/M, 18Mons contract, 600mins, unlimited text.
You can check it at here.

My missus uses her 600 minutes by the middle of the month - so she rang to cancel to say she was moving to O2 cos of the unlimited landline calls bolt on. Vodafone upped her minutes to 900, plus unlimited landline calls and 500 texts for £20 a month over 12 months

Had been PAYG with Vodafone for a couple of years when I decided on this particular sim only package. They ported my existing PAYG number over within two hours of making the call and agreed to £9.79 per month for 12 months so slightly better than this but £10pm is still a great deal if you can get it.

They were giving me Nokia 5800 on 24m contract for £10/m but only 100 min and 500 txt and no internet
similarly was a Sony Erricson phone C something.

if you work out the cost, it actually is much more than buying phone on its own and getting a sim only deal.

Good if your happy with your existing handset. I'm sure you could get a decent deal on 12 months with a new handset too.

My friend at work has just got a 8 month free line rental by redemption + topcashback deal with vodafone through mobiles.co.ukand got a shiny new samsung tocco

I called Vodafone today to get same upgrate offer but after half hour talk they told me we have not given this deal to any one even for upgrate when i told them you have given this deal they said we need mobile number ? so this is cold for me

I'm not voting either way.
The trouble with these 'word of mouth' deals on phones is that there is no garauntee of getting it at all - therefore not a deal at all in my opinion - self negotiated deals are a personal thing, and from the evidence of other seemingly 'too good to be true' deals on phones, these deals are hard to get or prove.
That said, thats a good deal indeed for you.
I literally upgraded with vodafone last week, every year I go straight through to the disconnections option and after trying several times i get a fair deal. I got the htc magic 18 months, 200 rolling anytime mins, unlimited texts and internet and a free bluetooth headset for £19.57 including a 50% rolling discount which Ive had for the last 5 or so years, this is a better deal for me as I'm getting a £2-300 phone included.

whilst this is not guaranteed, it does set a mile stone around which others can negotiate. What a network will offer will partly depend on your previous spend etc, so we're not all coming at it from the same perspective.

But, as a voda customer, within my last month of a 12 month contract, I am bearing this in mind. Some good cashback for some networks. incl sim only and with new phones have been out there, hope they still are, as I haven't started talking to anyone yet.

This is exactly what i meant, as yesterday was so frustrated that i was about to moan here on HUKD regarding vodafone and their treatment with existing customers etc, but then came this magic call and all went well.

So this is more of an info for anyone in my situation considering to leave vodafone for something similar (like O2 deal), to try negotiate as they will def do it

Three things if you guys could clarify.

1) are you guys sure its free unlimited internet
2) Is this price plan for life, or 12 months then goes upto £20 or something like that
3) if its for friends (as well as family) would any of you guys mind giving me your numbers (who have this deal), so i can be your friends?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

possible to get a phone with this deal?

Just to clarify..... the OP did not get this as an "upgrade", he got it as a retention deal.

There is a big differemnce between the two. If you log on to the vodafone website you can check what upgrades are available to you... (have to be within 70 days of the end of your contract on 12m deal, not sure about 18m)....

The upgrade deals they are offering in there are sh1te!

I will wait another 40 days and then ring up and give notice to cancel... thats when retentions kick in and start offering real deals.

10 months ago I got a Nokia 6210 Navigator for £14 a month - 100 mins and unlimited texts.... so £10 a month for more mins, same texts, unlimited internet and no phone is very possible.

It is indeed a retention deal which you can only get after you are out of your existing contract as the penalty of leaving the contract is heavier than getting this offer (unless you can really wrestle it out of them)

As for the phone, no i doubt as the SIM itself if bought on its own as a contract (without internet is £15.00), and it was being offered for 12 (as upgrade), and then £10 (as retention). But then i got them to add internet on top which they eventually did

So overall £10 per month, no phone, 600 min + unlimited text + internet = 1 happy person

No.....already been down that avenue with Vodafone, £9.79 is an all-in figure, bit of an odd end amount granted but the sum total nevertheless.

Just left voda for O2 today, voda outbound retention acted funny

Had phoned Vodafone few days back to cancel contract (it was 12mth P4U cashback) at its end. Vodafone offered 100mins + 500 texts as an upgrade @ £10 per month which I declined. Will look for a new phone+cashback now as I have sent one month notice letter to cancel contract to: Disconnection Department
Vodafone Limited

It will go up to £10 when the VAT rises to 17.5% end Dec. The odd number just reflects the current temporarily lowered VAT rate.[/LEFT]

great deal for u personally,
but its not a deal that everyone will be able to get so thats probably why this isn't getting many votes or getting many cold votes. Its not like the O2 + quidco deal as u mentioned.

not going to vote as this "deal" would only apply to a limited number of people on voda that contract is ending soon, and for people who can bothered to speak to sales agents.

but wouldn't mind having that myself lol, good bargain for u op

It's all down to a combination of your value to Vodafone, the person you are dealing with and current sales targets. Can't be arsed with this stuff. Good luck to you but can't see the value to anyone else. Voted cold from me.

Two reasons why it's cold, firstly it's vodafone and secondly and moreover why I don't want to move form O2 you don't get the broadbadn disount.

Oh actually there is a third reason - O2 are the only supplier to include MMS messages in the txt bundle, everyone else charges you.

I did the same with three network and they offered me a loyalty discount of 10 pounds per month on any of their contracts.

I have no doubt the the op did get this personal deal and i also agree that this is an interesting information for those trying to haggle a contract. However IMO this is not a deal for this section of the forum. Nobody can ring or order this deal. All you can do is cancel and hope that you manage to haggle good enough if and when they ring back.

I got this deal aswell... offered to me a few days ago

:thumbsup:hot, but i'm gonna wait until december for the apple i-phone 3gs on vodafone, thats right vodafone are going to sale apple i-phone 3gs, i think O2 are going to lose a lot of customers, well done vodafone:-D

This deal has been going on for a few weeks now. My girlfriend is on Voda sim only 600 mins + unlimited texts and was previosuly paying £20pm.

I rang up for her a few weeks ago, told them a "friend" of mine had got it, and they lowered her monthy payment to £9.79 on a 12 month contract (price goes back up after 12 months). I tried to haggle the internet bolt on aswell but they wouldn't budge. Other's were given free Voda2Voda calls on top. I rang back and tried to add that on aswell, they tried to add it for me but the system wouldn't allow it so they offered me Stop The Clock instead which I accepted.

They do give it to new customers aswell as I helped a friend get it after I had. It's always worth trying your luck even if you aren't a current customer. Just give them a friend's Vodafone number, regardless of whether your friend has the deal or not as they're not allowed to check your friend's account without their permission anyway.

]Here's the previous thread started on this deal.

Dont know how you can vote cold to this. Whether you likr Voda or not this is an amazing deal. my retention deal with voda last year was sweet - 500 xnet with stop the clock (so 1 hr call using 3mins calltime off peak), 1000 texts, passport (which came in esp useful this summer with no connection charge and using allowance abroad) AND net included AND a handset oh AND i had it on 12 month contract with discount for the full 12 months (its normall9 of the 12). GOOD TIMES :-)

1. Vodafone beat O2 in terms of 3g coverage so tbh o2 are the worst network for 3g in the uk
2. Not everybody has o2 broadband so why does this affect whether the deal is hot or cold? I personally get my broadband for free but it doesnt mean I should vote every other broadband deal cold.
3. Can't disagree with that but not everybody uses mms so it doesnt mean the deal is cold for everybody.

3 do a better deal than O2, O2 are rubbish and thier 3g is too slow and in most places none existant, Say No to O2, ;-)

Orange is also getting iphone too. orange will get it b4 xmas and voda will be after. for those of u who is thinking about getting an iphone on contract, id hold on until 1 month or so after xmas..... there will likely be a price war between voda, o2 and orange.

o2 being the worse network will 100% be lowing the prices! initally o2 signed a contract with iphone to keep prices up but now the contract ends soon so they will defo be lowering prices. natually voda n orange will do the same!

Brilliant deal. Wish I could get it for myself.

nice, i are this week looking to a new sim only

My conract with Voda is up in January, already had them on the phone offering me the Samsung Jet,but told them i'm un-decided on what i want.
I was thinking of moving to o2 just for the iphone, but with Orange and Voda now getting it i'll be able to haggle and stay with Voda or move to Orange as o2 are crap IMO.:)

Any time when my contract is due for renewal i simply ask for my PAC code(the code to port your number to another network),tell them i'm leaving, they put you through to disconnectons and offer you any phone you want,it has never failed for me.

This is exactly the same as I had the pleasure of receiving from them BUT I had a Blackberry Curve 8250 thrown in. Threaten to leave and they'll ask why!
