I am on the mailing list for Crown Currency Exchange (they do some very good exchange rates and lots of people I know have used them with no problems at all).

Crown Currency is an online currency exchange company. The rate they are currently offering on Travelex for US Dollars today is 1.63 and Crown are offering 1.72 for the next few days at least!

The emails says:-

Due to the current market turmoil we have had a number of customers who have had to cancel their travel plans due to changes in their circumstances.

As a result of this we have forward contracts for US Dollars and Euros which we will be selling back to the currency markets if they are not filled.

First come, first served! Telephone orders only.

Customers can order any amount of the contracts below - but hurry...grab a bargain while stocks last!

The rate depends on when you want them, but if travelling in Dec they are very good deals, esp for dollars.

EUROS

Delivery Date Contract Amount Amount Remaining Rate
02/11/09 36,000.00 36,000.00 1.1699
16/11/09 29,500.00 29,500.00 1.1749
14/12/09 42,000.00 42,000.00 1.1771

US DOLLARS

Week Ending Contract Amount Amount Remaining Rate

09/11/09 28,000.00 28,000.00 1.7103
30/11/09 47,500.00 47,500.00 1.7187
14/12/09 39,250.00 39,250.00 1.7207

I order some dollars for my trip to New York in Dec earlier - no probs at all. If you look on the website you will see the latest prices, this offer is not mentioned. You need to phone them to get these prices.

The number for ordering is 0800 612 7273. I think they are closed Sunday and open 8am Mon morning. Check the website for times.

Hope it helps someone out.

Keith

Thanks Keith.
Ignore idiots who should know better. Writing rubbish for the sake of it.
Mascherano, why would you write something so stupid.
Everyone who posts a deal does it without them having direct contact with the deal, so what are you on about?
When someone posts a deal at Tesco they don't set the deal, they just let us all know. Unless I am missing something then I will report your post.
I wish the mods would stop troll posts.
Matt

Where do you find these rates - the best I can find is $1.6999 on those dates? Still a good price though

The rates change all the time.

The best rate showing now is 1.6999

Thanks

they offer great rates especially if you order well in advance but be aware that you may get caught out like i did. i got dollars at 1.51 when they were 1.40 elsewhere but by the time my holiday came along you could get 1.59 everywhere !!

used this company before ..... impeccable service and i cant praise them enough .i personally wouldnt go anywhere else .

The 1.7207 dollar rate above is available (just say you received the email - I`ve had a few family members do it and they got them no problem). It`s a special email offer and has to be done via the telephone.
They take your name, address and how much you want and you then send them a cheque or do a bank transfer.
It`s a very good rate as I`ve been keeping an eye on the site for a while as I`m off to New York in Dec and it`s not gone higher than 1.7.
Just to confirm I have nothing do to with Crown Currency (re to the above post), I work to the prison service!!
Thanks,
Keith

crown have been around for along time and not heard anyone have any trouble. The problem is for me if the compay goes bust it will take your money with them. The amount I would gain by a higher rate is for me not worth the risk

This is quite an excellent idea... you can fix your foreign exchange rate commitment for a holiday in a few month's time, and have peace of mind that even if the FX rate moves you won't be caught out. But this is only good if you have a strong opinion that the spot rate currently offered by moneychangers now is too low; otherwise why not just get your money changed now to offer peace of mind.

Thanks I'm going in October so this is good

Check with your Bank there is likely to be a charge. I bought Euro's online through Travelex with my debit card and Barclays charged me £4.50 for £500 worth of Euro's. Its not a big fee but you should be aware that you might be charged.

I used Crown recently for the first time - good service , cash arrived before requested date

but these rates change daily and to get the good rate you have to purchase at least 1 month in advance and h who knows what the market will do in the mean time

I agree about the risk. If they go bust, you have no comeback (and no cash).

You pay these people cash in advance (depending on your individual agreement, could be well in advance). Given then The likes of well known big names like Zavvi and Woolworths have gone out of business, I woudn't feel comfortable risking all my holiday spending money in this way.

They must be expecting the dollar to go up to 1.80 or so by November to profit on this. Unlikely I think we are in a peak and it'll be back to 1.62 next month.

I ordered US dollars a few months ago at 1.70 and recieved them last monday when the dollars now around the 1.6 mark!!!
Crown Currency made a big loss on me!!! :D:D

they do not work like that - they do not speculate on the currency markets,.

they just puchase your currency at an agreed price further up the chain and make a few dimes on each transaction etc. for them it makes no difference what the markets do as they just have a bigger spending power than the average consumer etc

Just to let you know the deal has not expired, which someone has marked as expired. The rate is only available off line, the online rate will give you a different value.
You need to call them for the 1.72 rate.

pay with credit card

I ordered Euro's to be delivered within 10 days.

I got 1.1369 - the local High St only offered 1.10

When compared to other Bureau de Change, it's a winner everytime:

Tesco - 1.112
Thomas Cook - 1.108
Post Office 1.105
M&S - 1.084
Natwest - 1.080

Is their any way of getting the expired taking off this deal? I`ve just called to check they receive my bank transfer and they still have enough left for another few days at the prices.
Keith

Great! I will keep this saved for my next trip. I would be happy to get £250ish off them for trips to the US. Then top up at Travelex before I go.

For the poster who likes the idea of locking in the rate...if you order online from Travelex you can also order way in advance and when you collect the currency you get it at the rate it was when you ordered it. Though I reckon the Dollar will not vary much for the next few months or at least go up slightly so not worth tie-ing yourself in I reckon.
