Looks fun! Does anyone know if it works as a midi device? Would be pretty awesome with proper drum sounds. I doubt if it has velocity sensitivity, though that would be doubly awesome.

No it doesn't and to be honest it's totally rubbish. The latency between impact and audio, even on an i7 system, makes this unusable. I think they were originally offered as part of the "Unsigned Act" promotion that Orange did a couple of years ago.
The vid on youtube can't possible be genuine!!! (without mods)

Yes I got it last year for the kids as I thought it would take up less room than the DD-55 they actually wanted (yes I know I'm a miseable sod!). Anyhow the subsequent DD-55 purchase has seen the roll-up consigned to the back of the cupboard.

well of course, theres a massive difference in price, this is only £5.90, how much did your dd-55 cost?

You're not kidding the roll-up cost me a fiver off Amazon and the Yamaha was around £100 from Costco. I'm not suggesting that there's a comparison between the two and £5.90 isn't going to break the bank I suppose for a bit of messing around ... the dog quite enjoyed jumping on it for while before the cat got in on the act (no pun intended).

Reading the comments on the above linked youtube video it would appear that the latency problem is an issue with the sound card on the host pc, as there's no latency when used with a dedicated drum module. There's a great free program called "asio4all" that will reduce latency to a few milliseconds for most pcs.

What I'd really like to know is is it velocity sensitive, i.e. gets louder if hit harder? It would seem not from the video. Anyone care to comment?

Got one last year. It went down like a lead balloon. My kids never played with it and they love music. Just a warning you might want to consider before puchasing
