Guys, stop messing with usb C and no resistor. Good price but not voting, as without a resistor this cable may be dangerous.

There are a few deals here for TeckNet, only £2 a piece and come from The UK. Play safe, TeckNet is very good value and have the resistor. I have one since long time ago and can't complaint. Fast delivery, 100% feedback for the seller, long warranty too if you really need it.

Thank you. Ordered.
Thanks, might place a bulk order for Ebay, they look expensive.

ordered 2 cables from them before, took ages to charge up / well not charge at all.. if these are the same.. don't bother.

These are 5Vx2.4A = 12W ... this is the maximum rating. However, your device or charger may be capable of less. So if your device is only capable of 5V/1A then it will be quite slow to charge up regardless of the cable rating.

When I replaced those with my normal cables they works fine. Fyi. My devices are pixel 2 and s8. Thanks..

This one does not say it has a resistor, so I am assuming it does not, otherwise I can't see why they will leave out such info, which is the most important for a USB C cable.

The other ones:
1st link, check the last picture, 2nd link check the 4th picture. I also have this brand and it charges my phone fast via USB C which tells me it has a resistor, however I've done my research before buying it.

Also, check this link, people are voting without having a clue what they vote for, saving £1 and risking to damage an expensive device or even worse, set the house on fire:

Agree with the comment from mcrobbj, Baseus has a resistor. Not sure if all the Baseus have it, but I've got a 3 in 1 Baseus and has the resistor.

I think its the fact that it doesnt mention it. The specs are scarce. gearbest.com/cab…363 is an example of one with a resistor, plus I have it and its decent. I think I got it from a previous deal for a couple of quid.

So true!
Was hoping for 20W charging tbh
Fire hazard all over it.

They say it takes up to 2 months but it's usually only a fortnight, I've ordered a lot of crap off these websites before.
And try AliExpress as well. They normally have cheaper stuff like this in general, I think

I think that if it's usb-c spec it should contain the appropriate resistors, but if you're fishing around the recesses of the internet looking for the cheapest stuff on the planet chances are some of them will indeed be rubbish.

I just wouldn’t trust something that can deliver that much juice that costs so little. Chances are it could be fine but I wouldn’t want to chance it.
Adorablemunchkin09/08/2019 09:18

agreed, people shouldn't make baseless accusations
they should wait for their house to burn down before making such claims about such a basic spec requirement that its absent on gearbest page...
or better yet, use it for 5 mins and declare its safe cos you tested it...

fire killed five people of the same family in sheffield a few years back - faulty charger likely to blame, so I know what you mean.
These cables and/or chargers may be cheap, but the consequences could be huge.
Should be made illegal to sell without passing proper safety standards IMHO.
I think it need to be USB-C both ends in order to be a proper PD (Power Delivery) fast charging cable. The most I think you can get with a USB A to USB C cable is 15 Watts which is reasonable, but not what i call fast charging. Basically make sure your device and charger supports power delivery and both have USB C ports, get the correct cable and you can go beyond 15 Watts (If your device supports it). But don't go cheap on USB-C because a lot of cables and charges do not adhere to the standards.

Because the resistor is the most important feature for USB C. So, not mentioning this, to me it looks it does not have it. Surely when you sell, you try to show the qualities.

Not talking about this particular cable, but the fact it does not have a resistor, does not necessarily means 'will happen', means 'can happen'. You never know the quality until something wrong is happening. I have USB C cables without a resistor, but I use them with old chargers, so not fast charge.
I'm not an expert in cables, but read too many stories about fast charge and fire hazard. Can't comment on the cable you mentioned, to me, usb c should have a resistor, oyherwise use it as slow charge. I am surprised to see this reaching 500 hot, while one of the deals I've mentioned earlier is nowhere near that hot. For the sake of £1, people taking such a risk. Never mind it will take forever to get these from China.

think thats what 'smart chip control' is, resistor will be on that board along with the higher 3A rating
not certain but then the olaf doesn't say anything at all although it has a sort of 'chip' icon one one of their pics
(edit: bangood shows similar/same cable with text 'effectively prevent charging too fast and damage the phone')

edit2: but dont risk your house on my word

Your Pixel 2 & S8 are USB C [PD?] compliant. This means they will 'ask' (iterate power objects == POs) the power source for its available power ranges. If the ranges are not in the list that they can use then they will default to some value decided by Google/Samsung, this is most probably 5V & ~1A ... which is USB 3.0 default.

The pull up resistor will set it to 5V on the VBUS when first connected then it is up to your device to negotiate with the source for required power after that. Your device will have a list of power it can use safely which it will select based on the POs returned. Your device also has a default power setting for when none of the POs are appropriate.

I bought a $150 USB C PD evaluation kit from Monolith Power System for testing all my USB C cables & Chargers.

It already *is* illegal to sell without meeting the safety regs in the country you are selling to, but the hukd crowd *decide* to bypass the legally responsible sellers to this country in the search of the cheapest possible item without any other care.

And don't think Amazon check anything they sell either, they are one of the worst.

I agree. So basically you're responsible for your own safety and the manufacturers could give two hoots.
Looks good and hope it will work as good as it looks. Heat added!
Will this work with my OnePlus 3 dash charge adapter? Thanks!
