I fancy some, reviews of quality don't look the best on these amazon ones though, been drawn todays the screw fix ones.

If you are buying more than 1 of these it still works out cheaper though.

They're also 2amp rather than the 1amps linked to on Amazon i.e. tablet-friendly

This one at Amazon is 2 amp and is a 'normal' shaped double socket rather than the strange curvyness of the OP's one...

Thanks OP for making me aware there are 2A ones about now.

Won't these be using a small amount of power all the time, whether connected or not?

Personally i wouldn't risk my house catching fire on a unbranded item like these

The one I linked to says it turns off when you pull the cable out.

I would assume so. It would be nice to know if switching them off would stop that. Until I can be sure of that I won't buy any.

Just looked at the 2AMP amazon one & in the Q&A it says the usb still work even if the socket is switched off.
Further in the Q&A possible figure of 20p/year and 1 watt r mentioned.

Here we go again.

I get the idea, but you still have to keep a cable handy, and will likely be left connected all the time. Not convinced they will power off when a cables disconnected either.

Come on now. Fire Smoke, she is a rising fire, yeah. Smoke on the horizon, well. Fire Smoke, she is a rising fire.

Very interesting invention.

I can imagine these becoming standard in the future, ya know when they work out the power draw stuff.

good find op, heat added

Beware that these plugs are deeper than your standard ones due to all the USB part inside them. They may not fit in shallow/cluttered boxes.

What with the new reversible USBs coming out, why bother? Buy these now and for the first in your entire life, your wall plugs will become outdated relatively soon.

Looks like this one is just 1 amp, the posted one is 2 amp which is needed for the majority of tables and some phones these days.

Previous posts have mentioned that these are dangerous - fire risk.

I'd rather lose a plug socket than burn the house down...

Well, it might be just a marketing scheme, as 2A might actually mean each port is 1amp.
I doubt if each port was 2 amps they wouldn't advertise it as 4 amps.

So very slow charging on most modern phones and devices. My LG G2 warns me of slow charging on a 1amp charger

I have to admit I smiled at first, but after reading the material in your link, it does indeed look like these should be avoided for now.
Thank you, and to all others that post here there is no fire risk, did you actually look in the PDFs in the link above?

I have professionally fitted 3 of these and was assured they are of a very good standards. I love them no more ugly bulky chargers... a bit slow though

For that price just buy a few USB plugs....

Received the one I found this morning. Really nice quality, not much deeper than usual, matches normal white sockets and the print should come off with a bit of T-Cut. It gives 2A total, so one device will charge quickly, two slowly.

Bit cheaper than the OPs and supplied by Amazon themselves so worth a punt.

What on earth are you on about. the reversible part of USB is the plug, not the socket. Any reversible plug (if they ever emerge in any great numbers, which seems pretty unlikely right now) will be compatible with these.

Sorry to spoil your desperate attempt to find something to complain about

USB type C, so as time passes u will have to keep cables just to use with this socket rather than just what will then be common [type C] cables.

Edited by: "png666" 6th Dec 2014

Nice idea but the USB standard will change and the amount of dodgy unbranded electrics out there makes me walk away from this one. My home is worth more than £12.99. Good luck if you buy these, i hope they are great.

Nonsense. All you'll have to do is buy a couple of adaptors and leave them plugged in to the socket. Anyway, who knows how long it will take for the new USB standard to be widely adopted, if it ever is. Basing a buying decision now, on something that isn't even out yet, is just plain daft.
