blu ray reader for under £8, bargain. I wonder if this could be modded to fit the gen 8 microserver.

Don't lose your cable. Not seen one with a connector like this before.

That is a standard Micro USB 3.0 Female connector
Edited by: "badunn" 24th Oct 2015

Has anyone actually got one of these yet. It sounds like it may just be a caddy not a drive but if it has a bluray reader in it it's an absolute bargain!

its a USB to sata docking station for external drive units it not a DVD drive.
Ive got one you need to be careful about compatibility with the dockable drives. it doesn't work with every thing.

It looks like it is only a caddy (tray loading external portable ODD caddy) ..so not that great deal at all

Does this come with any blu-ray playing software? Not a huge amount of use to me if not...

That is a standard Micro USB 3.0 Female connector

Apologies for wrong initial post, as pointed out by dcx_badass this is the USB3.0 female micro USB-B connector. I wouldn't call it standard compared to the ones on most phones though.

It is a connector which many USB 3.0 external hard drives also have. It is fairly standard and cheap and enables crazy fast speedsspeeds.

You're completely wrong, that is micro USB 3.0, no such thing as exsata, there is esata which looks nothing like that.

eSATA is below, now stop posting crap and do some research.

Can you play Blu Rays on this via your laptop?

Apologies, you are right I was deluded for quite some time as both my (external) hard drives and router have these connectors and eSATA ones so I made a wrong deduction. Also googling micro USB for external hard drives gives you the ones most phones use rather than this which most certainly isn't that and I didn't know that I need to add -B when googling. Apologies if my "research" standards aren't up to your standard... I genuinely believed that was esata...

And exSATA is something autocorrect made when I wrote esata...

Anyway thanks for clarifying.

II have set this up (using a different reader admittedly) on win8 for a friend using vlc and some add ons, a quick Google will lead you to a tutorial how to do it.

So yes you can do that, is it plug and play, no it isn't.

So is this just the caddy?

It's just a caddy, meaning you need to supply your own slim optical drive.

The -b doesn't really matter, the difference is most phones use usb 2 micro usb, this is usb 3 micro usb.

Its not likely to be outside is it?

I understand but it matters when you try to check what you post via Google :), I was just explaining why I made the mistake.

** Not a Blu ray drive but pretty obvious given the price. **

but the description of the item states:

Package Included:
1 x USB3.0 blu-ray CD/DVD burner drive

No, it's an empty caddy.

No, What I meant is... Is there the reader inside of the caddy or not? Is this just a caddy?

Sorry -couldn't resist;) It contains the drive. Looks like it is a Blu ray reader but definately NOT a writer. Bargain though.

EDIT ** carp its box only I think **

Description states it's a DVD/RW and Blue-ray drive, item specifics also ("Package Included:
1 x USB3.0 blu-ray CD/DVD burner drive
") and lastly pictures clearly show a drive of some description. So on the face of it you will get a CD/DVD R/W Blue-ray drive.

However, on the other hand it also states "Product is tray loading external portable ODD caddy" and nowhere does it state a read/write speed, plus it's ridiculously cheap, so maybe it is just a caddy?

At the end of the day you're taking a gamble - be prepared to lose £8 if it's not a drive. Forget about returning it - their returns procedure is a nightmare!

If you don't mind losing £8 then worth a risk in my opinion.

OP .. It would kinda help that either within the body of your Product Title, &/or Product Description the BangGood Merchant was mentioned? (it would help for current/future 'Search purposes' & stuff?), thanx. :-)

This would be an AMAZING PRICE for an 'Internal' Blu-Ray Writer!, how much more so an 'External' one?, lool. :-)

It's a mess. The web page contradicts itself. Says it is a drive then says it's a caddy. As said before take a punt if you want, worse case scenario you get an external drive caddy

If 'Caddy' only, then its kinda DECEPTIVE to Market it as otherwise the way I see it?, or ..... :-(

Lol.

Register and download the app and can get a 10% discount coupon on £0 or more orders.

Not worth even risking £8 in my view. Ebay sells (uk based) USB drives (inc blu ray reader) from about £20.
FYI this is respectable (free) blu ray software leawo.com/blu…er/

Poundland sell them as they are the same connector as USB 3 galaxy note phones, a foible of USB 3 drives I own have the same connector

Same connection on my Galaxy S5

You can fit standard micro usb that comes with most android phones as well

I knew it was neither eSata or eSata/USB. I don't have anything that's either Android or USB 3. At least it's not a unique cable you're going to have a hard time finding if you need a replacement.
