Please heed my warning guys, I bought a G6 about a month ago and it got blacklisted, as much as CEX were good about giving me my money back the faff and hassle of having to return it to the store and such and buying accessories was a waste of time.

Just be warned they often get phones that end up blacklisted, the guy behind the counter said it happens quite a lot with new handsets as often people get them as upgrades then sell them on and then fall behind on payments.

Just be careful.

Is that for network locked phones or unlocked ones too? A local CEX has an unlocked one for £290 and I'm tempted

Yeah any phone can reported as lost or stolen, so it's blacklisted completely, apparently if people stop paying the contract the network can blacklist it, I purchased mine about six weeks ago and then woke up and it no longer worked did an online check and yeah it was reported lost or stolen, went in to the store and they did the checks too and yeah same outcome.

They have now banned the person who sold it to them and they will chase them for the money apparently, but still not worth the hassle for a phone that can be often bought new for only £80 more from Amazon Italy etc.

I would argue it’s worth the saving as you have the opportunity to go back there but not if it’s your main phone and you don’t have a spare.

I hear a lot of these blacklists are also insurance jobs (claiming it’s been lost weeks later, get issued new one).

It’s not surprising given you have to be pretty desperate for cash to sell a phone to CeX when they openly display what they’ll pay for it and it’s usually pathetic, it’s obviously going to attract those kind of people...
Personally I would use Smartfonestore, they can be and usually are more expensive than CEX, and they only have a 60 day warranty, but even their Grade C phones are in really good condition.
Also IIRC getting it unlocked from anywhere other than CEX voids warranty

Product Warranty
CeX offers a 24 month warranty* (on all items purchased on or after 14th Nov 2015) on all items except consumables. The CeX 24 month warranty* does not cover physical damage, water damage, or any damage caused by unlocking a mobile phone, and only covers software faults arising in the course of normal use.
