In Utopia for Realists, Rutger Bregman shows that we can construct a society with visionary ideas that are, in fact, wholly implementable. Every milestone of civilisation – from the end of slavery to the beginning of democracy – was once considered a utopian fantasy. New utopian ideas such as universal basic income and a fifteen-hour work week can become reality in our lifetime.

From a Canadian city that once completely eradicated poverty, to Richard Nixon's near implementation of a basic income for millions of Americans, Bregman takes us on a journey through history, beyond the traditional left-right divides, as he introduces ideas whose time has come.

Just to expand on this - it covers things like the future of work (and leisure) things like universal basic income, and some surprising insights - apparently the USA almost had UBI under Nixon! Well worth a quid, if you're interested in how our future can be better than the trainwreck it is right now. It's not just optimistic waffle, lots of case studies and research.
Utopia? More like pie in the sky, with his belief in the outmoded and ridiculous idea of a universal basic income!

listened to the guy on Jeremy vine when he was promoting his book .Brilliant ideas which should be adopted. Alas the powers that be are 100% intent on the rich getting richer and the working class working to keep it that way. If you need a example the lady who owns bet365 who got a 325 million a year pay award while staff no doubt got a 1% rise on their minimum wage.
