Hi everyone, gas engineer here.

Vaillant are a good brand, However, I do not recommend this boiler model in particular for a number of reasons.

This heat exchanger and general setup of this boiler is not a true vaillant in my opinion. It is virtually identical inside to the heatline capriz models in terms of internal design and layout.
Very restrictive honeycomb style aluminium heat exchanger (which is prone to "hooting" noises during burner modulation).

If vaillant is your preferred brand then I'd recommend upping your budget to go for the Ecotec range rather than the ecofit.
They then have a stainless steel heat exchanger and a much better internal design with increased longevity (in my opinion and experience as they can actually have the heat exchanger cleaned effectively, which the aluminium heat exchangers is virtually impossible).

Vaillant also don't typically have opentherm compatibility (at least outside of Holland) with their Boilers so you don't reap the modulation and efficiency benefits of their Boilers unless using the Vaillant controls utilising the eBus protocol.

If you're open to other brands I'd recommend baxi 800/600 range (also stainless Steel heat exchanger with decent warranty, brass components rather than plastic etc). They are also compatible with Opentherm controls which means greater efficiency when utilised without being locked into the manufacturer specific controls.

Other options I'd recommend would be intergas (aluminium heat exchanger but copper lined so no issues with softened water etc and also designed so it's accessible to clean), navien (lesser known in the UK but decent boilers but just not the size you'd have in a kitchen, so recommended for garage, airing cupboard or utility room type installs)

Also with all warranties you'll find there's some key points to remember to ensure they are valid.
Firstly that it's installed by a gas safe registered engineer (despite what some of these comments say, the manufacturers will state this in the warranty terms and conditions including registration requirements).
Secondly that the boiler is installed to a system which has been flushed, treated and protected correctly in accordance with BS7593 (often powerflush, inhibitor and magnetic system filter).
Finally that the boiler is serviced every year in order to keep the warranty valid.

Controls wise I'd recommend Nest or Honeywell T6r (both opentherm compatible).
Hive is an option, but doesn't offer advanced modulation control of the Boilers and purely operates as an ON/OFF Relay.

Also when it comes down to combi Boilers you'll want to check (or get someone in who can) the flow rates and pressure to confirm a combi boiler is suitable for the demands your household has.

Hope this helps some out there.

1. This is not a particularly cheap deal, why on earth is it so hot? I suspect yet again the HOTUKDEALS mods are artificially inflating the heat because it’s a high commission item.
2. Make sure you know what you hot water output requirements are. This is the lowest output and will not provide a good flow rate for a shower. I would get the 30, or 35 preferably and they have better flow rates.

Looking for a boiler here, waiting to see any inputs on what brands/models are recommend these days.
Something with a long guarantee would be great, apparently there's a difference between guarantee and warranty with them.
This seems to be quite cheap, but not sure if you get more than 2 years guarantee. And then you have to check spare parts prices in case something goes wrong at some point.

You won't find better than vaillant. But the extended warranties tend to only come if you get them fitted by an accredited fitter.
We've just had this boiler fitted came with 7 year guarantee but have to service each yeah

From their description section:

Additional Information
Flue sold separately

Also:

Compatible with Vaillant range of high-efficiency flues.
Single electronic circuit board for simple commissioning .
ecoLEVEL Condensate Pump compatible.

Which makes me wonder if the condensate pump is also an "extra", hence why the price is so low.

Here is some other feedback on Vaillant to consider.

hotukdeals.com/com…511
my bosch broke down and it was going to cost too much to figure out what needed to fix it so i got a vaillant, maybe this modell. engineer said it's easier to fix these as the parts are laid out well inside so its easy to remove and replace parts, whilst the bosch meant you needed to pull it apart to get to certain parts at the back, so more labour time to fix

vaillant came with 7 year warranty, parts and labour as long as you service each year. the vaillant nest thing i supposetd to be the best as it only works on vaillant models and knows outsie andd inside temps and how long to heat/cool based on your settings, and it was described as more like an exalarater on your car slowly increasing and decreasing, whilst nest/hive literally just turn the boiler on or off which isn't as good for the boiler and doesnt work so wel. the vaillant app connects to alexa so you can sit and talk to your echo and turn he theat up or down

apologies - keyboard is going weird

How much to get this fitted?
traienuts26/01/2020 03:18

Decent? I'm looking for the best

Regarding the best boiler it depends on how much space you have to fit a boiler - cupboard mounted or garage boiler ? Also do you have a high hot water demand ? If you are able to garage mount and have a high hot water demand then I would recommend a storage type combi boiler. These boilers have a small hot water cylinder built into them and offer high flow rates, instant hot water from the boiler and the boiler doesn’t have to fire up every time someone runs the hot water tap for a quick hand wash.

I have a ATAG Q38C in my home and it’s brilliant, Allen Hart has fitted a few Viessman 111 storage combi’s and they look great too. These boilers are extremely well made but are expensive.

I just priced an AC / heat pump unit with Boxt, 35% more expensive and for an inferior unit than the LG I had fitted a couple of months ago by an LG approved installer. So shop around !

funny enough the worchester replaced a vailiant...which i spent 500 quid fixing...only to conk out again a few months later

Unless the regs have changed from the boiler manufacturers.
Flushing must be done to ensure no damage occurs to the boiler.
With a cold flush, hot flush and a magnetic filter that should cover you. Unless things have changed, there is no need for a power flush. I had this conversation with Valiant a few years ago when first line support told one of my customers there needed to be a power flush. i got them to apologise and confirm a power flush was not necessary.

Wow, fitted in half a day, sounds way too fast, how they would flush and clean the system first, fit the boiler and then rebalance the system in 4 hours is impossible.
well i said half a day...but as i posted....they started at 0730 and were done about 1 half 1

....they did'nt really stop either...just a brew or 2 on the go

they did do some sort of flush at the start as i remember them telling me the radiators were flowing clean could'nt swear that another was done they might well have done.

10 year guarantee so as long as you get it service every year

Condensate pumps are not supplied as standard as they are very rarely needed, the condensation water usually drains away under gravity, only when you don't have this option would you need a pump.
I had a Valiant boiler fitted 5 years ago (not this model) been serviced every year to maintain the warranty and it has been faultless, it cost me £1400 fitted by a Valiant approved tradesman. I would recommend Valiant boilers.
My mate is a gas engineer and does boiler installs/repairs. Says Vaillant are cheap (they're Glowworm). Baxi would be his recommendation - British company and good CS.
Standard warranty on a Vaillant is 7 years (subject to annual servicing) but you get 10 years if fitted by someone who's been on one of their master installer courses.

Half a day ?
They need to do a full pipe system flush and treat .
Then the boiler swap with new flue fitted .
Fill up the system and bleed and then do a full gas test and then recheck .
5 hours to do all that ?
Its normally a 8 hour job minimum , that's why they make around £800 profit every boiler fit .

Don't know anything about intergas I just know Atag have been going for 70 odd years and have a stellar reputation. They are predominantly commercially focused but their domestic boilers are top notch also and have a 10 year warranty. The reason the likes of Worcester Bosch, Vaillant etc. are so well known in the UK apart from the marketing is that there are often kick back schemes for the engineers hence why they are recommended a lot. However it is considered they are not as good quality as Atag by engineers with no vested interest in promoting the other brands and Atag are often referred to as the "Rolls Royce" of boilers.

I'd agree, the BAXIs are well built. The BAXI 630 would be a better buy than this overall in particular due it being a 30kw compared to this which is 25kw.

The BAXI I believe comes with a 7 year warranty provided your Gas Safe registered installer notifies building regs and completes the checklist (which includes adding a fliter) the boiler is supplied with.

This item on eBay sold by a retailer in Bromsgrove is a good price for the BAXI which includes a horizontal flue: 173875661277

Are long guarantees worth it? Paid for a new heat only boiler to be fitted. 18 months later heating stopped. Initially diagnosed as a boiler problem but actually turned out to be 3port valve. Had I tried to use the guarantee, I would have been charged for call out and new valve (which I fitted myself, easy). Then noticed that the installer had not fitted a filter which invalidated the guarantee anyway. I fitted a filter, Flushed the system, new inhibitor, all fine, I think. I think that the reputation of Worcester boilers is similar to that of VW and Bosch, both of whom failed to notify customers of recalls in their products until forced to do so. Excellent publicity scheme and very generous support for installers. Prefer to choose a boiler made in the UK. No problems so far with Baxi.

my installer told me it was a 10 year parts and labour warranty as long as it's serviced. when i was googling i saw it was 5 years stanard, and 7 years if installed by a registered engineer, so was wondering why he said it was 10 years, but this must be why, as the guy said he'd been installing boilers for 30 years, it was a family business that i knew had been going for decades which is why i chose them

with the help of another guy he came early and replaced the old boiler with this by about 5pm. my view is as long as i pay the servicing each year then that's me covered for 10 years, so the make/model doesn't really matter too much. the bosch only lasted 6 years
Does the warranty whether it's 5, 7 or 10 cover all cost labour, parts and call out fees?
