Talking utter nonsense, the fitting is not a fire risk at all, the opening cut out in the ceiling is the breach of the barrier, I.E. plasterboard, to prevent fire spreading. Fitted with a hood is the same as a fire rated downlight in most cases.

p.s. COMPANIES, GOVERNMENT, THEIR.

Just put LED'S in place of the Halogens.

Just fit fire rated much better, fire hoods are crap and a nightmare to fit they never sit right

Nothing better than when a joist has been cut and it is all burnt of the halogen lamps

Use as many, or less as you want, they aren't connected together in the pack.

Cheers OP ordered for collection, will be using with my GU10 smd's

Does anyone know how well these hold up in kitchens and bathrooms. Just that I had some budget ones before from B&Q and the chrome started to rust after awhile.

Not LED ...FAIL (too much electricity consumed)
Not LED ...FAIL (higher electricity bills to pay)
Not LED ...FAIL (wasted heat vs light output, senseless heating of a draughty cavity)

Hint buy some quality LEDS before this sort of fitting & bulb are outlawed.
I agree to some extent with whover said about fire risks, because many folk wouldn't think of buying a hood (raising the overall project price) nor fitting it, fact is the ceiling areas are draughty ole holes for vapour to escape through & draughts, part of every home should be to seal it tightly & allow regulated air exchange accordingly, (kettle on? ..crack a window open for the duration to avoid condensate).

Price is good, but product is naff, as is the bill for turning them on compared to modern means, halogen downlighters are so 1990's

Cannot vote on basis of price to be completely fair to OP.

Voted cold.i am electrical wholesaler manager and this is a big fire risk as well not not being a good price. you can get any lock ring down lighters for about £2.00 which are much better than this clip holder lights.

Any electricians recommend something to go over the top of these in my loft? would a clay plant pot do the job so that my loft insulation isn't sitting directly over them?

You be better off buying none led fitting and putting LED GU10 lamp inside . this way if the bulb burns out you just change the bulb not fitting. I highly recommend GE or Philips brand of LED bulbs as they have 45 year guaranty based on 3 hour of use a day. ( Stated on the box).

Private message me if you need any more details. i be glad to help.

Just collected mine (chrome rather than the brushed style) think I'm going to be taking them back though. Not because they're halogen as I've already got some LED GU10's that I was going to put in them instead. The thing wrong with them is the actual bulb sits over a cm up inside the housing so greatly reducing the angle the light is emitted. Shame as they look and feel well made.

this lock ring down lighter where you twist the a ring to hold the light bulb in place. this type of down lighter is cast metal.

reguluxgb.co.uk/wp-…jpg

the other type is a pressed metal downlighter that uses thiis type of ring to hold the bulb

cityandwest.com/ima…jpg

the pressed metal downlighters look like this

ecx.images-amazon.com/ima…jpg

this type of down lighter will change shape when it is subjected to heat. and there high possibility of losing the the retaining clip.
