Various ales for less than £1.30 a bottle in Morrisons (April 2010)

Here are the beers from Morrisons April offers which fall within my 'baron bargain' range (£1.30 or less)

* Jennings Sneck Lifter [baron rating 3/5]
£1.27 instead of £1.47

* Marston's Old Empire [baron rating 5/5]
£1.28 instead of £1.48

* Morland Old Speckled Hen [baron rating 4/5]
4 for £4.25 instead of £5.25 (£1.07 per bottle)

* Wells Banana Bread Beer
£1.23 instead of £1.43

The winner this month by far is the Old Empire offer, this is one of my favourite beers and at £1.28 for a tasty strong ale it's a great offer!

As always I'll check back next month...

Marston's Old Empire is the best of an average bunch. If you want to play a joke on a mate get him some Banana Bread Beer. It's truly disgusting.

A good deal on bottle ale is a quid a bottle. Both Sainsburys and Asda do regular £1 deals and move it around different brands. I've always found Morrisons a bit expensive as a shop, apart from the loss leader stuff - generally my trolley always comes costing up more then elsewhere across a range of shopping items.

I suspect it's a 'marmite' beer - it's been around for years so someone is buying it and as an odd bottle now and then I quite like it (goes well with a pudding).

Agreed.

My best deal recently was Sainsbury's two times four packs of Pedigree (or was it Pride?) for £8 - so that's £1 a bottle. Must see if they still have any.
