The Transatlantic label was never one to restrict itself. They had their earliest big successes with a series of sex therapy LPs, and built themselves a reputation as the premier British folk label through the 1960s and 70s. The label was the brainchild of Nat Joseph, who set about importing rare American records that hed discovered on his travels, and later went on to discover so many artists who were to become leading lights of the folk movement this side of the Atlantic.

And Josephs discoveries are all well represented here. Opening with The Dubliners haunting rebel ballad The Patriot Game, the selections tell the story of the label via songs like Ralph McTells immortal Streets Of London, Bert Janschs virtuoso performance of Angie, Saturday Round About Sunday (from that Gerry Rafferty-fronted incarnation, Billy Connollys Humblebums) and Young Traditions hymn to the unemployed, Chicken On A Raft. A winning story, compellingly told.
