Did this just start today? Was in HMV 2 days ago and all were full price. No wonder HMV are going belly up. In my branch they have some shockingly old guides for full price still. Might have to have a look in tomorrow

Original Poster

Went to Aberdeen Trinity Branch today. I assumed it should be nationwide

Wow - super hot prices if you can find them....... shame no HMV in my town...

Holy...for a sec then I thought you meant the games were that price. Thanks OP, I'll keep an eye out though I hope I don't get addicted to buying guides.

Spotted in Brum today as well:

Halo Reach Guide £1
Fallout New Vegas £3

Brilliant price, would never think of buying them at usual price but this is a steal.

blah blah blah blah blah

i failed

Why would anyone buy a game guide these days? You can literally find better guides for all games for free on the net

Sometimse people want a paper copy to read whilst playing or away from a computer, and it saves printing costs of printing the online guides.

for collecting purposes...I have a few in my collection

Hot if nationwide doubt it though

I just went into Oxford Street and when I said that I'd seen online Super Mario Galaxy 2 for £1, he looked at me in bemusement. There is a sale today, but most of those prices I think are specifically limited to the OP's store and the thread should reflect that.

For anyone that bought Brink last week, HMV are doing an awesome Trade-In price also! £35!

Voted Hot!

its the guide...my bad didnt read the post properly...u see game and clearance n your brain automatically blocks out everything at once...

Cracking deal. My HMV didn't have any discount stickers on so got the guy to do a price check and they have guides reduced so this is nationwide.
I got:
Halo reach £1
Left 4 dead 2 £3
Fable 3 £1
Halo 3 £1
Halo ODST £3
zelda spirit tracks £3

Happy days

got a few for my local store in Kirkcaldy, never had much, but Pokemon gold/silver and FF13 both £1

A couple left in the Canary Wharf store.
Fallout: New Vegas £3
Halo 3 £1
Halo: Reach £1
Black Ops £1
Modern Warefare 2: £1
Asassins Creed Brotherhood £1

aren't these guides usually a load of outdated or oversimplified tosh?
good reductions though.

I personally couldn't care much for the content of a guide, as in like...using it to help myself on a game because I generally like the challenge but game guides usually are very presentable with nice art work inside and stuff which is a good enough reason to pay £1 to collect them in my opinion.

Damn, I forgot to pick up a copy of Black Ops. Might have to go back soon

FF13 i want!!

Had a look in the Preston branch, and pretty much the only game guide in-sight was for 'LA Noire', so obviously that wasn't reduced; there was no others that I could see, let alone at reduced prices

Not all stores stock a variety of guides. The one in my hometown don't anymore afaik

Dragon age 2 is £3. Picked it up for my flatmate

Hmm I just got back from Croydon and Bromley stores.

Croydon had f-all.

But the Bromley store did have quite a few guides left, inc FNV, MW2 and Blops.

I bought Fallout New Vegas and Halo 3.

But I really wanted Halo Reach and ODST as well.

If anyone can get those, I will gladfully pay for postage.

Just PM and I will pay through paypal.

Regards

Pally

As I said earlier, they were marked at full price at my store but they scan at the lower price

Back from HMV oxford, got Reach and F3 game of the year guides.

There were loads there, and still marked at full price, I asked over the counter for the guy to check and he found the price was a few quid.

I told him about the other stores, and he said he hadn't been told anything and that he'd change the prices from now on.

So good luck

No dude..

I went there today at around 1pm, saw that it was marked down from 17.99 to 4.99.

But I went to the guy at the corner of the till doing some stock stuff and asked him to check, saying that my branch at Bromley had them for £1 for Reach and £3 for Fallout.

He said it's unlikely, as it could be individual store stuff doing stock clearout, but still checked and was suprised to find out it was TRUE, they are £1-3 each. He did the deal for me, asked how longs its been like that (because I said it was nationwide) and I replied about 2 days, since all other shops have cleared their stocks.

Then he told his colleages to change the prices....

So there I guess. There were a lot of Reach copies, FNV, F3 GOTY, Mass Effect 2 (wish I got that one now :P) and Warcraft crap too.

Good haul for me. Got 4 in all now. All seriously thinking of getting the ME2 one...maybe.....mabye not...

Did you see a Halo ODST guide in there? Because I couldn't see one and I really wanted it.

I got a copy from my local HMV, can't remember if it was the last one at the time but when I went back, I can't remember seeing any more.

Edit: Just to be clear, this is in HMV Newcastle, so quite a bit away from London :P

Damn I really wanted all Halos

and ODST was my favourite Halo of them all (Yes I know many regard it as sucky, but I liked it).

I could always ring up some stores and ask.

Doesn't hurt in asking, and I presume there's a few HMV's in London? If I'd known, I could have got you one and posted it but I think they're all gone. I'm in town tomoz so I shall check for you
