Strictly speaking vaseline isn't a waste product from crude oil refining, it's just a simple fraction. It's not hydroscopic so I don't see how it could 'contribute to dryness'

I was under the impression this wasn't uncommon, but perhaps my previous comment lacked strong foundation.
Same thing happened to me years ago. I used to panic if I didn't have a lipgloss or vaseline with me. Now I stick to blistex relief cream which is fine. I always say I was addicted to lipgloss
lip balm is however good to treat sore dry and cracked lips as they help retain the natural moisture at night. I would have thought it sensible to reduce the usage when your lips have recovered and no longer require additional aids to rejuvenate the damaged layer of skin.
