Why?? Are they reconditioned? Only states that the box is damaged. Presuming they are new.

There brand new mate take no notice - it's just a damaged box and stock they want shut of to boost there year end sales :-)

Any thoughts on the steam mops? A couple for £20, would the dearer ones really be that different?

Anyone know which is the best Vax Cyclinder vac with the highest "air watts"? Need a decent one for the car

Thanks.

I would offer a bit of caution to people looking to buy one of these. I went for one the last time around, and was sent a different model (inferior one) to what I ordered without being told. They then tried to persuade me to keep it on the phone - I didn't and it went back. To be fair, although the box was damaged the vacuum itself looked fine.

Also, the head piece on the cylinder vacuums are dreadful, particularly on wood floors. The one I received made a scratching scraping noise as it moved along the wood, and would almost certainly have left permanent damage had I kept it.

Vax vacuums almost unanimously come bottom of Which? reviews.Which? September 2014 edition lists - for uprights - Vax Zoom Pets family bottom, Vax Power Pet U90-P2-P second bottom, Vax U88-W1-P White Pet 5th bottom - all in the "avoid" category. The only one tested that didn't come in the "avoid" category was the Mach Air Force2 Reach U89-MAF2-R model, which scored 59%

Of the cylinder vacuums, bottom of the pile again is the Vax White C88-W2-B, with White Pet C88-W2-P second bottom, and Power 7 Total Home C89-P7N-T third bottom. All are in the "avoid" category. The only one tested not in the "avoid" category was the Mach Air C89-MA-B model which scored 66% and came 2nd bottom (out of about 30) of the others.

There's a reason these vacuums are cheap. Personally, I'd suggest spending a little more on one of the Miele cylinder vacuums that come up on offer every now and then (I replaced the Vax I bought with one of the £99 Miele C2 Compact models Tesco had on offer over Christmas, and it's obvious that the built quality is much better).

I agree, I have a Miele hoover, and would never buy any other brand. I do have a Vax steam mop (the S2S-1) which is really good and cleans the floors in minutes.

I've got a miele too - never had a vax vacuum so can't comment either way but checked the reviews is the S3S+steam mop on Amazon and all good so at this price a bargain.
Mieles have there problems too ( I'm in a debate at the moment with miele over a £90 possible charge to fix my in-warranty vaccum.
Each to there own but for more realistic reviews I'd suggest Amazon because there impartial ( unless it's a kindle ! )

Got sucked in twice with these sales and consequently currently have 2 VAX vacuum cleaners, both are utter rubbish, enough said!

I accept that Miele may be better, but a 50 quid vacuum can be thrown away and replaced more easily.

We had the lightweight Air one with some daft long warranty. The hose was short if you wanted to use that separately, but it was worth this money.

How cheap is an alternative? Or rather, what else can you buy for £55?

Thanks OP

Personally, I find that Which reviewers quite often talk out of their a***s; I have the Vax White C88-W2-B, bought from Asda last year, and it's great. I have a mix of wood flooring and deep pile carpets throughout the house, and while it's not amazing on my carpets, not many vacs are in my experience. Yes, the build quality is visibly cheap, but it performs more than adequately for the price paid, which is presumably what any regular person would expect from a ~£50 device designed to suck (pun intended)...

So want to buy something but I already have 3 x Vax uprights + 2 x Vax Steam cleaners, can I really justify another one.......

Very heavy, filters block after one usage and impossible to clean, hoses fall apart, tools fall off the vacuum, replacement parts sent without question under 6 year guarantee and they are always different to the original parts as they openly admit the originals were useless and the upgraded replacements are no better. This company should sell goods in a local pound shop based on the quality of their products!!

Bought the zen cylinder...230 down to 70 thanks op

I have an Air 3 and it's really good. Very high powered suction. I've had a few bits break, but fair play to Vax customer service they replaced the parts extremely quickly free of charge.

For the first time ever my Chrome browser has told me that the website is insecure when you click onto the checkout and recommends to leave. Another thing, Why would Vax create another website just for a sale and not just add it onto their own. On vaxs own site delivery is free and on this site its 5 quid. Has anyone used this site before?
