can this compete with something like a dyson?
Only asking as I have a half knackered Dyson and I've been considering paying the £70 engineer call out free to get it fixed. If I can get a brand new hoover for that money it would be a no brainer.

Gets some good reviews here: ciao.co.uk/VAX…750 and http://www.ebay.co.uk/ctg/VAX-Appliances-U90-P6-P-Upright-Vacuum-Cleaner-/92206810#pbe-rvws

Only compaint seem to be about it being heavy, but my Dyson is heavy too so thats not an issue.

I have never owned a dyson, so i can't comment really, but i have owned two vax's & they are pretty good, but i doubt whether they are as good as a dyson.
Some more reviews here amazon.co.uk/Vax…1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1331551162&sr=1-1

"excellent product, well worth the money compared to dyson (which i have owned for the past ten years)does what it says, good suction, light to use (even my wife can use it - the dyson was too heavy) comes flatpacked so you have to assemble it yourself (but very easy to put together)good delivery time. came on the day stated.the dust container is easy to clean, just wash out in warm water.best to clean the filter outside on a compressed air line (where a dust mask)
but all round an excellent product. "

I bought this vacuum because of my German Shepherd's propensity for dropping hairs all over the place. The machine arrived on time and was quickly unpacked and assembled.

To test it, I cleaned the carpets using a Dyson DC07 Animal and then tried the new Vax. To say that I was astonished at the difference would be an understatment. I was amazed at the amount that the Dyson had been unable to collect, to the extent that I now have it in bits trying to find out what has broken!!

I am really pleased with the Vax and the way it cleans.

Drawbacks? Only really one, which is that moving the brush setting knob can be difficult. The trick seems to be to lean the machine well back before adjusting.

Overall, highly recommended.

I think Dyson are a tad overrated anyway,

I find Dyson's generally over priced, no doubt they are well designed, it's the price that always puts me off.
I always give hoovers a hard time, i treat them like a rally car & try to lighten the mundane task of hoovering by thinking i'm on the monte carlo rally, (still a kid at heart) before i owned the two vax's i owned two hoover branded one's, they just couldn't handle the jumps very well & the wheels used to snap off, the vax ones have been fine so far.
purchased, free delivery option too.

O-oooops - sorry for this!
Just have checked some info about VAX models (couldn't find the same model) in Which magazine: "Vax claims the Power 2 Pet U90-P2-P was designed with pets in mind. But we found it's anything but powerful when it comes to pet hair. We'd warn you against buying this very noisy Which? Don't Buy model, which scored just 30% in our tests"
To compare: BOSCH, MIELE, DYSON models have 82% - 70% score.

I see where your coming from netbird, but all the makes of vacuum you mention are at the cheapest, nearly double the price of the vax, No doubt they will be better, I suppose it comes down to what you can afford & as i have stated in previous comment in this thread i have a vax 1800 watt model & it does the business good enough for me.
I won't moan about my VAX ability to suck things up, its great at that, but, and its a big but, it is VERY noisy and I mean very...also it loses suction way too easily on an uneven surface.

I've owned Dysons and 2 VAX now, the build quality of the dyson is much more impressive than the VAX.

Oh, did I mention you can forget using the VAX on a wooden floor?....its worse than useless!

Thanks for info pimpme, I don't use mine on a hard floor so can't comment, i use a soft brush on my wood floors, so not to damage them. As for the noise level, i have to agree, mine is noisy, if that's an issue for people then it's not for you. not an issue for myself as i'm a bit mutt & jeff. probably from my noisy vacuum's in the past.
I've cancelled my order, I didn't like the review comments about its performance on hard floors (I have three rooms with hard floors). I'll pay for the Dyson to be serviced instead.
