Just read the review on amazon :- Sounds great

This review is from: Vax VZL-401 Astrata Power Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen & Home)
This is the worst hoover I have ever owned, I can't wait for it to die!
The flex isn't long enough, the hose isn't long enough, If using the hose on low levels (on hands and knees) the appliance falls on top of you.
I does have good suction, although it fails to pick up hair, cotton, fluff. I could spend an hour hoovering one room and still find bits that were missed. It makes housework very hard work, labour saving this is not.

Ohh my it's a must have then :w00t:

Has good suction but doesn't pick up after its self - sounds like the wife !!! LOL

ok where is the best upright vacuum deal - i'm getting desperate ?? any help much appreciated

fruitycake, I bought the Bissell Powerforce from Asda:

I have been very pleasantly surprised by its performance on our carpets. However it needs emptying everytime it's used due to the limited capacity (and its high performance!). Which? didn't like its performance on hard floors, we don't have them (other than the kitchen) so no problem there for us. All the filters are washable so a saving there together with the absence of bags. All in all recommended, with the above provisos. Hope that helps :-)

We bought a similar Vax from Argos recently and I'd agree with some of the negative comments above...
The flex is annoyingly short and it can topple easily if you pull the hose out too far. Vax vacuums seem to have a reputation for being noisy... this is an understatement... when you turn it off you feel like you've just come out of a My Bloody Valentine gig. The hose also has an extra noise problem in that when stretched out far enough it induces a painfully high pitched whistle - like feedback.

Having said that it does have good suction and despite what is said above it does do well with picking up dog hair - something we had a particular problem with. I'd say at this price a Vax vacuum is worth the money but if I was paying "full price" I wouldn't recommend them... especially if you have sensitive (or even just normal) ears.
