More than a home robot, Vector is a companion made to help out and hang out

Powered by AI and advanced robotics, he's alive and engaged by sight, sound, and touch.

Vector can independently navigate and self-charge

Curious and attentive, he'll answer questions, take pictures, time your dinner, and more.

Vector voice features are currently English language only

Vector is an updating platform, cloud connected via WiFi so he's always learning and updating with new skills and features

Requirements: a compatible iOS or Android device and the free Vector app for set up only. Check compatibility at anki.com/devices.

Includes 1 Vector robot, 1 Cube, 1 charger (USB power adapter not included)

While Anki has ceased product development and manufacturing, Anki has stated that it will provide long term support to maintain the operation and functionality in the existing products and apps. A self-serve Help Center to assist in getting the most out of your product has been implemented by Anki. Regretfully there are no agents available but Anki have indicated that they will be monitoring cloud operations for Anki accounts and Vector

Good price. Ordered a 'like new' from Amazon warehouse with 20% off.
Edited by: "flightlevel390" 22nd Nov 2019
I’ve read all of the amazon page, and am kinda wondering what does it “do”? Is it just a glorified moving echo without the call functionality?

I ask not to be a troll, but because my son wants a robot that can do stuff for him- obviously I’ve said no.... but if this can actually “do” stuff it would make an awesome birthday gift!

Thank you.
I thought he was a robot vacuum at first.

Put the cider down!

It appears to be a large tray that Vector can 'play' in. The first picture of it makes it look the same size as the the robot.
But it's much bigger.
Is it worth £80? Or go for the warehouse one (without tray) for £59.51
How are these still being sold??? The company making them has gone under and there is no longer updates or cloud support! Need to stop selling this stuff or at the very least, warn people first. Cold!

They are warning people (Their "warning" is on the amazon page and in the info above) They're still providing existing update support, and self help support. Also, it's now sub £80, not £250, on this understanding.

It's more like a companion robot to hang out with, and be a pet or friend. It can perform little tasks with it's arms, but that's not the main point. See it in action on YouTube to get a better idea. The Alexa/echo thing is just an optional function, and secondary to the main point of it being your friend.
Looks like a modern Tamagotchi
Thanks for the heads up OP.
After looking on youtube I went for the warehouse option. The 'habitat' is not worth £20

What is the warehouse option, are they customer returns?

See flightlevel390 post above.
Possibly returns. I figure it's Amazon. If it doesn't work I can return it.

I'd have gone for that myself if like new, but it's used ("very good") which from the description sounds "slightly crap".

Did you get a like new?

Ah thanks.
Took my own terrible advice and watched a YouTube video, read the comments...
ORDERED! AMAZON WAREHOUSE! £59!
Love ours he is part of family..
Bear in mind that Anki went bust. While the servers still seem to be alive, don't expect the feature set to be improved at all.

Mine won't arrive for days. I did buy a Samsung phone from Amazon warehouse that was sold with a dodgy display. After 11 months the display failed completely and I was able to get a refund. That's why I'm willing to take the risk

Agreed on the risk. Amazon has always been great cs on returns for me.
I’ve been in two minds about one for a while now. I’m a member of the Anki forum and have been keeping tabs on third party / owner coding and development in the hopes of seeing further improvements to Vector’s capabilities. It does look hopeful but with the risk of cloud capability evaporating my ideal bite point would be about £50. Worst case I’d then write that off.

Also some users report their cats don’t get on too well with Vector

I'm interested in the owner/3rd party coding - do you have a link to the forum please?

I was split on this too, but Amazon have such a great cs policy if you contact them within a year if something's not right (phone is best), they will usually organise a refund. So I bit at £59 (amazon marketplace with current 20% discount deal).

I have read that it will likely be a paperweight by 2021. People from bankrupted companies who aren't being paid by said company to do so will eventually stop monitoring their servers or cloud blah blah - because let's face it, why would you? - and eventually whatever servers they have will be switched off. It is sad but it is what it is.

Thanks I'll be keeping an eye on progress here, and hopefully the boffins can dumb things down for me - or more usefully, I can intelligent myself up...
Thanks for the youtube link.
Looking around I found this link for the SDK for Vector
