As with many people, I have noticed the Verbatim discs in Sainsburys are 1/2 price at the moment.

Most I saw in store were manufactured in India, but I noticed in one of my local stores (East Grinstead), that the Verbatim 16x DVD-R (Product Code 43548) are manufactured in Japan...which as we all know are the highest quality Verbatims.

50 for £8.49 works out at 17p per disc, which is very reasonable for Japanese Verbatims.

--------------------------------

UPDATE: I didn't get the chance to check instore, but I believe these may be Taiyo Yuden discs...as I'm sure the "Made in Japan" 43548's are TYG03 dye. Maybe someone else can confirm?

According to this thread the Made In Taiwan ones are meant to be the best for compatibility Verbatim MCC03RG20

Apparantly TYG03 ones are not good for console backups.

It's a long walk to Sainsbury's for me so I'll have to hope Tesco compete this price soon.

Hot vote!

Thanks for the info. Off to my local Sainsburys to hunt down some japanese verbs. woo hoo!

Anyone able to confirm this would be a nice touch! ;-)

there only 9.99 on svp anyways but compared to shop prices there cheap. i stopped using them a while back as i had so many coasters which normally happens when they switch where there made, there usually the best the money can buy for movies, wii, etc.

japanese manufactured verbs will definitely be TYG03.

As someone else said, it's around the same price most "normal" places charge for them - but it's incredibly cheap for a supermarket/high street store.

MCC03RG20 MiT and TYG03 MiJ are both good discs, so definitely worth the money - avoid the moser baer/made in india discs.

Or get some FREE japanese verbs ]HERE

None in Sainsbury Garston or London Colney.

They only had +R and -R in cake boxes of 25 for around £5.99 each (1/2 price promo). I was after the ones mentioned in this thread as they are 'Silver' Printerables.

It would be goot to hear who else manages to find some.

Cheers

Lol Thunderbolt! I got really excite there, thought maybe there would be 10 or 25 free discs for something!

Great deal for supermarkets, no other brand I would really use for backups etc.

43548 aren't silver printable - they are silver with the verb logo/name at the top - the word dvd-r and the dvdforums logo to the left, size and speed rating to the right and lines for labelling at the bottom.

The Verbatim DVD+Rs are TYG03s if made in Japan, I can confirm. I also have a pack of DVD-Rs unopened, but I would be very surprised if Verbatim used a different dye.

There is a huge difference in quality between the India discs and the others...hence why I specified that the discs I saw in Sainsburys are "Made in Japan".

Sorry, I was looking for these and got excited. The one's I'm after are: 43645. Oops sorry to all.

These are still a good buy from a high street store without having to order off the web (SVP @ £8.79 + P&P).

The web search seems to return that these are based on the MCC 03RG20 media code (Mitsubishi) and do not the Taiyo Yuden media code.

I guess someone can confirm by buying a pack and reading the medai code.

Cheers and Sorry

I think the MCC 03RG20 dye discs are Taiwan discs (and India). These are Japan discs...which as I have mentioned, I believe are TYG03.

i brought 50 infinti dvd-r's yesterday and they say manufactuar "verbatim" and have got "MCC 03RG20" has the dye thingy

Thanks for the deal, I'll try to get some. I've bought Verbatim DVD+R 43550 Made in India ones and not happy with them. After burning using Nero and Deep Burner I can't the disc.

I also used CD-R 43411 Made in China.

Both with above DVD+Rs and CD-Rs after burning using my Dell E520 I can't read the disc. But then I tried in my IBM T42 laptop which seems to be reading them just fine. It's really weird. So this lead me to believe that there might be something wrong with my DVD drive? I still have one cake of 50 DVD+R left unopened which by the way I bought from Staples.

Anyway, voted hot.

It appears the general concensus with Verbs is to avoid "Made in India"!!!

I've just got back from Sainsburys New Cross(London) and bought myself 6 tubs. There were 10 left, but didn't want to clear the shelf. Give others a chance to grab a bargain.

As far as I can tell, all the DVD-R's there were made in JAPAN.

I've opened one up to check media code using ImgBurn.and it's shows up as TYG03...woo hoo!

Well happy, hopefully 300 discs should last me while.

Hi,go on CDFreaks & check out which are best Verbs, from opinions, from the fanatics there(at least recent info on them).

Cheers BOB

verbs and tayos are the best. don't bother buying any other brand unless you enjoy burning coasters.

i'm expecting these to fly off the shelves, so grab a few tubs while you can.

17p per disc is a steal, it's even cheaper than CD-R's. Sainsburys also have verb CD-R's on sale but can't understand why they are more expensive than the DVDs. Think it was £11 for 50.

Verbatim use the same reorder code for MCC03RG20 and TYG03 so they could be either (depends what your store has in stock).

Those at play are currently MCC03RG20 according to the last review on there. They are neither low or high budget verbs.

Made in Taiwain and Made in Japan are both very good discs - the MiJ/TYG03 aren't the best quality discs Taiyo Yuden make so don't buy them simply for the TY name. Discs with the MCC MID are all-round good quality discs.

Stay away from indian discs and you'll be fine.

Fake MID and not real verbatims. infiniti/datawrite/those other cheap clearance discs are all packaged by a company called E-net who buy any old reject/fake mid disc and put them out under one of their many brands.

Bought some today, it says on the outside made in Japan and heres the code for those wondering

You're welcome Big_L.

I'd have cleared the shelves myself of these in my local Sainsburys, but I only buy printable discs...but thought I'd let everyone know, as its a very good price for the "Made in Japan" Verbs.

I bought 2 spindles of 50 about one month ago from Reading Store.

These are 43548, manufactured in Japan and TYG03. These were also the same price then.

JFYI - There's none left at at Sainsburys Vauxhall(London). I picked up the last 4 Tubs of DVD-R(Made in Japan)

Noticed loads of DVD+R(Made in India) though, but I would avoid at any cost.

Anyone looking for DVD+Rs with the TY dye would probably be better off looking in Maplins. That's where I found mine. They were going for a tenner for 50 last time I looked.

Maplin Online prices:

A29CT VB DVD+RW 25pk CB £19.99
A52FA VB DVD-R 50pk CB £19.99
A53FA VB DVD+R 50pk CB £19.99
A09GU VB CDR 50Pk CB £14.99
A46GY VB DVD-RW 25pk CB £19.99

They do have special offers once in awhile for Verbs. But at the moment, it's more than double the cost of what Sainsburys are selling them at. Save your trip to Maplins.

FreeSquidz;2779349

I agree the TY verbs are the best on the market (as are the verb dual layers) but if you are burning a lot of coasters with any disc then you need to look at your burner/software. I would say the quality of the disc is more in its compatibility and how long it will last over time.

I used to backup the company accounts at work. 3 discs a day, every working day (I don't know why they would not use rewritables either). The consumable buyers just used to buy whatever was on offer so every type of disc from the best verbs to the worst cheap unbranded. Out of over 2000 burns I can't have had more than 10 coasters and maybe another 5 that struggled to read back but eventually made it.

Went to my local Sainsburys and they had nothing but full price Sony discs. Guess this isn't a universal offer....
