My comment wasn't saying it was a bad thing just pointing it out as you didn't.

The bikes nearly 20kg!

If I lived on a plateau Id be tempted but my rides are continually up and down, generally more ups

Urgh cable discs too.. Orrible why oh why when you can buy good quality shimano hydraulics for £35-40

You'll find that a lot of fat bikes come with cable discs because they are easier to repair in the middle of nowhere and less susceptible to cold weather. Shimano for example, use mineral brake fluid which has a lower freezing point than the dot 4/5 used by other brakes.

TDF-2 code works with clothing, not this bike unfortunately.

The main issue with this bike is the ridiculously high gearing and crap tyres. Both of these would need changing if you're going to use a fat bike to its potential. Having said that the asking price is a bargain so making those changes would still get you a good quality fatty for a good price. Much better than the Coyote Fatman from Go Outdoors. I expect the reduction has come about because the Voodoo Wazoo is out now and for £500 its got a very decent usable spec.

Looks like something a clown would ride.

Obviously half priced as they've run out of clowns to sell these to!

Impressive, but not convinced the bike in this deal would survive those sort of shenanigans for long. I also notice that the guy hasn't filmed his journey home from work, what with it being all uphill!

Tempting, but I have three bikes already. Seems like a good deal though.

Austerity innit
We're all in it together (aside from lying cheating MPs who've had 2 inflation busting pay rises in the past 5 years)

Agreed, I think the Voodoo is the better budget buy - it's a bit more money but it's a much better bike and worthwhile upgrading some of the parts as well.

I bought a fat bike last year (Trek Farley 6) as a winter bike as I'd been impressed seeing how amazingly well they dealt with wet muddy conditions plus I didn't like running the full suspension 29er in the poor conditions as the suspension and all the moving parts are pricey to maintain. However I've carried on riding it into the summer as the huge tyres are just so much fun chucking downhill on natural trails as there's so much traction you can crash over roots, take different routes etc. without a slip. The fat bikes look like complete tanks to ride but the rigid frame gives you more of a feel and it's much easier to get the front wheel up, I've beaten most of my uphill records (and almost got a KOM on a big climb here thanks to the huge traction the bike has allowing to power up the hill you can't normally do) and the downhill ones as well. I've now taken part in endurance and CX races with the bike although it's not great on trail centres or purpose built path, you don't get any traction advantage and I find the rigid harder going over jumps and similar.

Main problem is what to do with the full suspension bike...quite tempted by a 29+ now as a summer bike.

Should last fine after all unlike a suspension bike there's not many moving parts which makes the rigid bikes more durable. Tougher on the rider though, I can't believe he was landing jumps like that.

John

there were a few of these bikes on this year's L2b ride ,
On arrival , I discovered Brighton was awash with sandbikes!!

Great along the beach

I never saw you thereoO

Does it not come with pedals?

how much are the tyres on these?they aint much thinner than the ones on the front of my r6 and theyre over a ton a pop.
that said I think I am going to take the plunge with one of these..........

That. Is. Odd.

Last time I was on something with tyres like that it had an engine.

Looks like a laugh but maybe only as a 2nd or 3rd bike.

They start at around £40 for something like an On-one Floater up to around £90 for the top tyres. Obviously quite a bit more than a normal tyre although I justify it with the fact I don't need to pay out to maintain the suspension

It says it's supplied with basic flat pedals.

I was the fella on the green Giant Terrago kitted out with the USE S.U.B Antidive Lefty Fork

Why have a steel frame, alloy would be lighter and stiffer. Steel is better at shock absorption but pointless with tyres that big.

Hooligan!

Heated for the price alone. Spec is fairly basic. But at this price at least you're not paying a premium for the extra fat.
I don't really understand the whole craze around the fat bikes. It is a very niche product. But then I haven't tried one yet.
Over the years I have managed to justify many bike purchases. I don't think I can justify something like that:)

cool bike but could do with some suspension...
