Kudos to dreadzone101 for pointing out this code: M5GBV reduces it to £84.05 (Black only). You have to sign in to redeem this code.

Blue will be £87.87.

2827218.jpgThis was on Flash Sale a few weeks ago at the end of October hotukdeals.com/dea…626 the price has dipped again. A few on this thread are saying they're getting Android (patch) updates. Seems to be close to stock Android?

Band 20, Dual SIM, "frosted metal body" (China Smartphone Review at 0:30 says it's plastic?), 3.5mm headphone jack (yay) and 3300mAh battery (non-removable). Cheers, dreadzone101

Doesn't even ship until the 29th? Can't see this arriving before Xmas. Nice phone though.

Could someone please explain how this site works with import and customs fees... Am looking at getting a new phone, something similar to the given model or one of the Xioami that are always posted here but don’t want to get shafted on those extra fees....

Has anyone on here any experience ordering from here? Length, customer service, quality?

Thank you

I've ordered a few things from Gearbest and from Lightinthebox.
Delivery takes several weeks, but everything I've ordered has arrived.

Quality depends on what you've ordered. The same stuff is often available for more money from Amazon, but I've had many Chinese phones which have turned out to be rubbish... Doogee, Homtom, Cubot have all had some issue that I've hated and returning them to China is pointless, these companies aren't interested and the whole process is slow.

Recent media articles suggests tax evasion is currently socially unacceptable, but if you want to near-dismiss the chances of having to pay the total of import VAT (20%) and courier admin fee (£8+) on delivery, don't select any big-name courier service at checkout. At some appropriate time after delivery, you can arrange your voluntary VAT payment.
Typical delivery period is 3-4wks. Customer service is lipservice polite but sometimes difficult to understand the Chinglish terminology. If an item costs under the UK-enforceable S75 protection threshold of £100 then warranty may be difficult to service, although if using Paypal for sub-£100 purchases there is a possibility of credible 6months PayPal protection, PayPal-funded return and a long wait for resolution. There is a geezer on HUKD called Alice from Gearbest who will normally genuinely assist with any Gearbest issues. The general experience can be good as long as the customer doesn't expect UK-level consumer protection and can tolerate the implications of extended time factors associated with a supplier being based so far away.

I got a cubot dinosaur a year ago and it's still going strong and is a great phone.

I'm not trying to argue with you as I know how variable the quality of Chinese phones are, especially the lesser known ones. .

Doogee and Homtom both produce very questionable phones though, have to agree there.

That's a lot of phone for £84
But not sure about the brand... Is it on the same level as Huawei, Lenovo...?
Thanks

That's pretty bad, didn't notice that.

Though (as you can probably see me grumbling about on the Axon 7 threads) I and a few others ordered their Axon 7 around 25th October - the Axon 7 will now be shipped around 30th November*. Argh. Gearbest kept extending the shipping date on their website, though a few (GRAY colour) have had theirs Dispatched, many of us are still waiting, and both colours are on back-order again.

A few other Gearbest bits arrived in about three weeks, though (Axon 7 screen protector, those 76p LiitoKala Lii-100 Battery Chargers (!), and today, the Mr Bean Teddy - which was ordered on October 14th - took ages to dispatch).

As someone said on a forum somewhere, with Gearbest, sometimes you wait so long, you forget you ordered the item! Aliexpress is on a par for slow shipping speed, not that I have vast experience of either.

*Edit: Gearbest did pull their finger out, 3 weeks after ordering - the Axon 7 was shipped yesterday, 16th November.

Spot on, gb and ali are by far the worst when it comes to delivery time. I order once some Xmas gifts from gb, early Nov, and late Dec hadn't arrived, last minute I had to desperately shop around. Now, I only use them for cheap couple-of-quid tat...

Mediatek and 720p. Cold

You couldn't be more wrong. Dude resolution is good enough for a 5'2 screen, yes the higher the ppi the nicer and sharper screen, but no, we want options, affordable, and the screen is very good and the phone is fast enough.

I think the main problem with Mediatek chips was that there are issues with GPS satellites (?). Can't speak for the MTK6750 though, I will have a rummage around.

This phone has the Octa-Core MTK6750 (Doogee Y6) and is pretty slow to get a GPS lock gizmochina.com/201…ne/

Edit: Re GPS and this phone, says it's fast and accurate, though it's only mentioned briefly: at 7:30

You'd be better off with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x already posted but around the same price. Okay, 1gb ram less and half the storage but it doesn't matter with expandable storage

I'm not in the market for either, but if you're someone like me who uses a lot of Apps, you may need more than the 32GB internal storage. My current Samsung phone is teetering close to full internal memory (32GB), and that's with most Apps saved to MicroSD card, and video, audio, books, photos all saved to the memory card, too.

Some Apps rely on internal storage and won't let you move them, so they slowly collect data over time - mind you, a completely clean reinstall could probably help my reboot-happy phone. Looks like my Axon 7 may only appear after Xmas now.
Edited by: "louiselouise" 14th Nov

Mine's on its way apparently. Always on the lookout though :-)
Waiting for maybe the Mate 10 Pro to come down in price or something similar AMOLED with a flat 18:9 screen and decent cameras.

The Redmi Note 4X posted today for £89 has 16GB storage, not 32GB.

Not having a go, but is it absolutely necessary to post every GearBest offer on HUKD? Pretty much everything is on offer anyway

I don't post many Gearbest Deals if that's aimed at me, just the odd random one, but "Not having a go, but", made me laugh.

Hmm, 16 is a bit pants. If all you got is 80quid then maybe

Bit premature seeing as it's not shipped yet but has anyone found a decent cast that will take a card and a few folded notes too. I've seen a few that expect you to stick the phone into the case but I'd rather not put glue on my new phone. I have thought to get a 'shell' and stick that into the case but an 'all in one' solution would be good

Lots of Vernee M5 cases on Aliexpress, though you'd have to order right away as they tend to take ages. This one has card pockets, £3.85 aliexpress.com/ite…tml

Thanks for the link Louise. I was hoping to find one that holds the phone within a shell in the wallet rather than being glued in. My thoughts on glue being if its not good the phone will peel off and if it is good it'll be a swine to get off if the case needs replacing

Ah, right, looking at the other illustrations suggests it's some sort of sticky back arrangement which I wouldn't like either. Never encountered that before - my mum once had one with rubber "suckers" which seemed like a silly and unreliable way to keep a phone in the case. Sorry about that.

I'll keep looking...

I might get one of these and then glue this in the 'wallet' ebay.co.uk/itm…s-A

Thanks - I'm more of a pocket man than a belt holster person - and you have to take it out of the holster to use it leaving it unprotected when most likely to be dropped. I think I'll put it in a shell and glue the shell to a wallet. Seems a shame to have to buy two products but if the glue does let go and the phone gets dropped it will at least hit the deck with some protection as it takes the shell with it
