Full credit to msmyth for posting the original deal for the 32gb model from Lightinthebox here ..

hotukdeals.com/dea…142

The 64gb model on that site is £90.42 so this is obviously £6.79 cheaper - thought it was worth a separate deal.

If you're interested, paying extra for expedited shipping plus full insurance will cost you a total of £93.08

And yes, it does support Band 20

Only negative is 720p screen, I'm sure it's fine, but obviously lots of people want to see a 1080p screen..

I can appreciate that. Not really that much of an issue for me personally as I use my phone more for music with the odd game here and there.

I've got a Motorola X Play which I'll sell to CEX when this one arrives which will effectively make it only £22 quid so a no-brainer really

The Moto X Play scored higher in Antutu benchmarks though?

Thread from a few weeks ago here hotukdeals.com/dea…218 problems sourcing decent cases, but this phone is still rather new, I'm sure that will change.

I don't know that, but the X Play has 2gb of RAM and 32gb of ROM and this one has double that as well as a fingerprint scanner as well. I know the chip is on the lower end of the scale as well but i don't really do anything majorly intensive on the phone so it'll be fine for me.

how much will the custom cost?

i guess i'll soon find out - just got an email saying mine has shipped, which is good. said on the site it wasn't going to ship for another two weeks.

Original Poster

I think gearbest are giving me the runaround - they've only marked the item as dispatched because paypal told them to. it'll likely be dispatched next week as it was originally meant to be.

Original Poster

well i've just actually got all the tracking information from DHL and, as it appears at the moment, there's no extra customs charges to pay.

Original Poster

i spoke too soon .. just got a text this morning from DHL telling me they want a £20 quid payment for import charges

Got mine yesterday, not a bad phone for around £100.

Only downsides, if you can call them that, only 2.4Hz wireless, no fast charging and no NFC. I also removed a couple of apps that Trend Micro didn't like, but more feedback today when I use it in anger.

No NFC is a pain - I suppose I stupidly assumed that having fingerprint unlocking would also equate to having NFC. Stupid mistake really - I usually try and do my homework on things like that

Still think it's a good phone for what it costs though ..

As I have a Huawei smart watch, I can use that for Android pay, so a workaround, but it was all I needed.

that's handy. i've only got a pebble time myself. no NFC is no major hardship I suppose as i'll just carry on using regular contactless but it would have been nice.

i'm more interested in the overall performance of the phone - and the fact it looks a lot nicer than the one i've currently got

Camera is not great, good enough but not great. There is no way to get rid of the shutter sound, even when the phone is on silent. My fix is to use a third party camera app.

Original Poster

I knew that was an issue on some of the youtube reviews i've watched about it but it's no big deal really. i'm not a huge taker of pictures as it is, but as you say, there are plenty of third party apps to use - i seem to remember many moons ago i paid for one of the better premium camera apps that was on offer so i can always re-download that.

Had a full day with it, but had to remove both Nova and Google Now Launchers, as they were stopping some of the notifications and stopping my watch from connecting to the phone. Reverting back to the Vernee Launcher and normal service is resumed.

well i'd actually rescheduled mine for delivery on friday but i've just got a text telling me it's out for delivery today so we'll see

just got mine - did you get an OTA update when you turned it on ?

i've got one so i'm doing it before i start messing around with it

I think I had a couple of OTA updates and yes they were installed before playing.

Original Poster

been playing around with it for a few hours and i'm quite impressed. the build quality is solid and almost iphone 7-ish in some respects. had a few calls on it as well and the speaker seemed a teeny bit quiet, even with the volume turned up.

it's very likely going to be my main phone for the foreseeable future so i can keep messing around with it over time but at the moment, certainly well worth the money.
