Review from Amazon

An 8-inch tablet seemed to tick the boxes and I looked at various offerings before spotting this one. I've had it a few days now and I must say I am very impressed.

Key points for me are:
- Lovely bright screen with good colours and viewing angles
- The 4:3 ratio screen is a more conventional shape for web-browsing that the 16:9 found on 7" and 9" tablets
- Reasonable battery life - early days yet but seems to give me 5-6 hours in mixed use.
- Re-chargeable either using mains charger or via micro USB
- Expandable memory. It already has 16 gigs of memory but you can add a 32Gb micro-SD card
- Good wi-fi - it seems to be able to pick up a decent signal at some distance from the hot-spot
- Bluetooth - not always present in budget tablets
- Update and support available from the UK and firmware updates downloadable from the Versus website

It doesn't look cheap either. The tablet appears to be well made. There's a little flexibility in the plastic rear but that's about it and the textured nature of the back is nice to hold.

Update - 25/3/13

I've had the tablet a couple of weeks now and it continues to impress.

Battery life varies quite a lot depending on what's being done with it and every day is different but an example is from last week when I had to go to London on business.

I spent 2 and a half hours on the train and the tablet was being used for off-line news-reading (Google Currents) and reading a book for a couple of those hours. Thereafter it was used periodically to check personal email etc while connected to a wi-fi hotspot. I did some more browsing later on and reading etc and on the train home watched some videos. So quite a bit of use and the tablet was never switched off - only being put into sleep mode when it wasn't being used. A bit more web-browsing on the sofa that evening and my daughter borrowing it to play a game was how the day finished.

All-in the tablet was switched on at 6:30 that morning and finally switched off around 23:00 with around 25% of battery remaining. Not bad at all.

I bought a folder style case for it from an eBay seller. It was described as fitting the Versus 8 inch tablet and while strictly speaking that was true the tablet fell out if you picked the thing up the wrong way! I stopped using it and picked up a Storage Options 54868 Scroll Engage 8 Inch Protective Tablet Sleeve which fits perfectly and keeps it safe.
