Built to tackle challenging terrains, the Vertigo Eiger mountain bike is a great choice for both trail and street riding. The Eiger comes equipped with a tough, lightweight 18-inch alloy frame with a red and black finish, and features 26" spoke alloy wheels. A quick release front wheel and seat makes securing your bike easier when you are in town, and it is also a useful maintenance feature.

Front suspension on the forks and rear shocks remove some of the jolting bumps that you will receive on a rough trail, and cable operated disc brakes help you control your descent on difficult trails. The bike is fitted with 21-speed Shimano gears with grip shift to give you a wide range of gears to select from.

Couple other bikes on sale...

Vertigo Eiger 26" Dual Suspension Mountain Bike, 16" Frame - £50
Saxon Sondero 20" Folding Bike - £60
Scandal Block 20" BMX Bike, Designed by Raleigh - £50

I have just finished an after school club where I have struggled with umpteen cheap crappy bikes that creak, squeak, wobble and have barely functioning brakes and gears. I implore you do not buy a cheap crappy bike for your child or yourself they will not last five minutes or be any fun to ride. I'd go so far to say you can't buy anything new worthy of the name 'bike' for this sort of price. There is no Deal here because this is basically what these bikes cost all the time, you aren't getting anything you can't get at any other time.
The bike mafia out in force.

The bike has a frame, shimanos, disk brakes, wheels and a saddle. It even has spokes. Please explain why this is not as good as a Cannondale?

Why pay more for a garage filler?
critics and experts should post alternative/s like mobjw did rather than just condemn

If you buy a nice bike it's nice to ride, so you error ride it. Buy a **** bike, hate riding it, leave it in the garage. At least if you buy a nice bike and don't ride it you have a chance of selling it on.

The only alternative, I'm afraid to say, is spend some more and buy a rigid bike, not a pretend suspension bike. This website should be about deals and value, not just buying a thing that is the cheapest. The post above says what makes a cannondale better than this. Put the lowliest Cannondale next to a Tesco special and it would be immediately obvious. Pop into a proper bike shop, speak to someone who cares about selling you nice bike rather than a supermarket who just want to shift units.
Paulscycles.Co.UK sell last year's models off with massive reductions, genuine, proper deals on nice bikes.
I Agree, you get what you pay for.... But it's a good bike to lock up and have a far better chance of coming back to your bike, and no one has nicked it.
If they have, then walking home is less annoying.

No, it's an awful bike. Regardless. I love watching people ride these. Bobbing up and down, trying to change gears, working so hard to do 10mph. What the johnny said above is true.
These just always break. And they don't feel good.
What makes a Cannondale better (for example), is better groupset that actually works, lighter frame without suspension and more powerful brakes and a better saddle and a better feel and better wheels!

How much is a lot? I doubt it is being used more than 200 miles per week which is what I would say is a lot.

Surely, the pertinent question is not whether a Cannondale is better - it obviously is - but if for a particular type of user the extra price over a £50 bike is worth it? If you have no interest in cycling, but do the odd short easy ride - then none of the negatives you mention are really a big problem, and for £50 its pretty much throw away. I mean £50 doesn't even get me a full tank of diesel.

not on android apps apparently
if you just need a bike for short journeys something like this would be much better and worth the extra money (still well under £100):

Why are you continually knocking what is, and does not pretend to be, anything other than a £50 bike? Why compare to a bike costing in excess of 6 times as much? This isn't meant to be a debate about the reliability, or whether its as good as a cannondale, its HUKD where the emphasis is supposed to be "can you buy this product cheaper anywhere alse" I ride to work most days, only 9 miles each way. I have a very run of the mill bike but it does what its intended for and doesn't pretend to be a £500 bike. Live and let live, that's what I say...

Cannondale only got a mention because someone up there said this had all the same features of a Cannondale so why was the Cannondale pricier.

Spot on. I don't think you can have a bike worth having for £50, but this looks alright at £85 and being basic there's a good chance they have the basics right so you are getting £85 worth of bike. The rubbish tesco sell they pay $20 a unit DELIVERED. The mark up on this sort of rubbish is higher as a percentage than it would be on a fancy model!
If you love your children, don't buy this. It's safer to just punch them in the head each day... and a more loving gesture.

The point the "cycle mafia" are making is - go price up the parts for a bike new (where, you know, you get to know what you are buying). Check against the price here.

Now consider why even THE cheapest setup you can price yourself is at least twice the price and consider how many corners have been cut to produce this POS.

I'm not on the "pay 300+ or it's a shed" bandwagon but this (even at the original price) is rather too cheap considering what parts go into it.

Now, if you have one and it's going strong, fine. I'm nothing like a connoisseur but the difference between even a random "Apollo" and a relatively cheap Pinnacle (Evans cycles own brand) is staggering.
Nope, that's not the point. The point is, if you're skint, cut the extra's that are not necessary for your use and are dangerous at that price point (rear suspension for example) and buy a stripped down bike for a similar price which does what it's meant to to a better standard instead of wasting money on a heavy steel frame which is fragile and not designed for anything but riding on concrete paths along the sea front, a rear suspension which does not work properly, cannot be locked out and a groupset which will break fairly quickly after providing unreliable service until such a time.

If you are on a budget as many of us are, strip things back and concentrate on the important aspects. That dual suspension Tesco bike is unsuitable for anything other than flat riding from a rider who has little to no transition power. For slightly more, a bike with a lighter frame with a lifetime guarantee, with better components sans front and rear suspension which is not required or of any benefit on those flat undemanding beach front paths and are less likely to provoke an accident through component failure. Buckled wheels happen regardless of p[rice point but the ones on these £50 jobies are horrendous.

Basically if you try to cram all features at a low price point, through greed you are putting yourself at risk or wasting your money, the thing will be in a landfill within a year OR as I suspect it will sit in the garage and then given away/sold on gumtree with it never being tested.

Also, a bike like that will be quite an unenjoyable thing to ride. If you actually intend to ride it, spend a little bit more, strip the features down and stay safe and avoid wasting money. Better still, buy second hand, there are lots of good bargains, just be careful as Gumtree and Ebay are favourite stomping grounds for thieves to sell on.

Yes it is.
Who decided to call a bike Vertigo? Lol
I paid 22 squid for this bike after the online vouchers I didn't realise I had were deducted. Its not the best bike out there maybe - it is as heavy as my 70's Raleigh. But I have put it together, tightened all the nuts and bolts - without stripping any of them - and got the brakes working fine. For me as a middle aged bloke just wanting to use it to trundle along the tow paths it is perfect. If I were going to have my **** encased in lycra and wear funny shoes I would probably opt for something else. Until my dress sense sinks that low this bike will do me.
Just don't ride it more than twice a year or off the kerb and you'll be fine.
this is a BSO and nothing else - bike shaped object.
