This site is dangerous!
Won't be a good bike but at this price it's fine as long as you realise what you're getting. Ignore the bike snobs (where are they all today?). Would be better without the cheap suspension though (but if all the other kids have full sus......).

I noticed similar adult bikes for similar prices in B&Q today if that's more convenient for someone.
Bike Snob One reporting for duty - SIR!

Please, please try your local bike shop first. They should be committed to provide a properly safe and assembled bike fitted for her comfort and needs. Their livelyhood depends on getting people to enjoy cycling and come back and buy more.

Tescos are just giving you maximum spec for minimum price - whether that spec is useful or not. Because of this some of the components will be of inferior quality. Better to get a simpler bike with better components that will last and be safe. That the most important factor. Previous examples of cheap supermarket bikes (Google ASDA) should frighten you.

Kid's safety is something to be really snobbish about. People worry about helmets and then put their kids on a bike that may not have had the brakes and steering professionally checked and adjusted. Go figure!
I fundamentally agree with you, but as a recently 'born again cyclist' I have to say that the only common factor I've found in several proper bike shops locally is that they are massively expensive. They can also be somewhat intimidating to those of us not properly dressed in Lycra. Sad but true.
