bonzobanana11/05/2019 09:46There is a review of the Action camera on youtube and on the box you can see 'H62' image sensor which is a 720p sensor not 1080p so this is a 1.3 megapixel sensor and can provide a 1280x940 type image which it interpolates up to 1080p for video and 16MP for still images. With image stabilization and wifi features the main chipset is probably quite reasonable like a Sunplus icatch 6330 but the sensor is low quality which will ultimately effect the picture quality.Normally a true 1080p action camera that records at 1080p 30fps can do 720p at 60fps but this camera records at 30fps at 720p. It may actually be better to use this camera at 720p and interpolate the video to higher resolutions on your pc, this might also give extended battery life because the action camera doesn't have to waste processing time interpolating the resolution itself.Even if you are happy with 720p video it goes without saying that a 720p images upscaled to 16MP is rubbish ,this is not a camera for decent still images. Also bear in mind the small sensor as well as having low resolution, will likely have inferior contrast and poor colour too. The sensor seems to be designed primarily for surveillance cameras so maybe low light performance will be ok, unsure about that. Some of the worst action camera's I've seen have been from retail stores be it Lidl, Aldi, Asda, Argos etc it's like they are trying to compete with online shops with camera's that have lower performance components for a higher margin but come in nice packaging, ultimately they often don't sell that well because of their weak performance and are discounted to a lower price level but even at £14.99 this will be a profitable unit for Argos because of the low spec. The point is this doesn't provide true 1080p video recordings and certainly doesn't provide 16MP still images

Oh dear I'm sorry but that isn't even remotely true.

Not all cameras are created equal. They have different sensors, lenses, chipset, stabilisation, microphones etc.

been that price for ages, and has terrible reviews and poor quality capture.

Interesting... it's been £19.99 since it was £29? So it's the first drop other then the sales to £14.99 now!

After reading the manual and looking elsewhere other than reviews, all seems good to me for the money
Ill give this a shot for my bike cheers @bitcoin5

Welcome, got a rubbish version of one of these from last years prime day, on either side of a P4P drone, so just got a couple of these, to replace the "side shots" footage area cheap!

Even if it is 720p and real 720p, its more than enough for most.. unless you are popping a wheelie on your Ducati 821 Monster at 140 obviously!!

Theres footage on youtube.. I was going to fit one as a rear 'dash cam' on one of my bikes.. reports on here, and elsewhere of so many issues and poor quality made me not even bother.

What I say if it works it works doesn’t matter how cheap it is as long its 720p or above and I’m not gonna lie that doesn’t sound very safe

Yes, I did see some of those, but seems the upped resolutions tested VS what it had in the new manual is conflicting, hence why I thought it was worth a post, as 1) its not from china 2) if its 720p its good enough, anyway... we shall see when I test them out on Sat for a days flying....

This is what I was referring to by the way..

Should be withdrawn from sale for false advertising, it's not 1080p, it's a poor 720 upscaled
Is it really cheap? Yes
Do you get a lot for your £15? Yes
Is it good value? No

Why? Because it's not worth using. The image quality is awful. Those memories you were trying to capture will suck. Perhaps a toy for a child. If you intend to keep the footage, spend a bit more.
Had to return mine as it would not charge up. In a previous posting of this deal a few other buyers noted the same problem.

image/video quality is not just about pixel density.
Got one when it was on here last month for £15. Mounted on road bike just as a dash cam really. Picture quality is ok, if a little "wobbly" on stability setting. Can pause if need to see number plates etc. Battery lasts about 75mins, set screen to turn off after a minute or so to make it last that long.Mounts that come with it though don't fit on road bike handlebars as they are too big, should be ok on thinner handlebars though, so I used the other clip and attached it to the top of the stem with Velcro.
It creates quite large files though, ie a 32gb card is full after about 2.5hours. Not sure if that is "normal"...?
But as some reviews have said, battery never actually seems to be fully charged, will have 3bars at power on but drops to 2bars instantly, though as I said mine still lasts about 75 mins.
Looks like what I got from Aliexpress a while back for around £8, don't think it's worth much more. Just buy a basic 1080p Xiaomi one and that will be much better, or budget permitted go for 4K lite which is just over £100 I think.

That tells you everything about how bad the image quality is.

What are the recommendations for a GoPro alternative camera, budget around £100? Bit over faced with the choice out there
"Lowest ever for this fab little all in one action cam kit! "

Believe me, save your £15, there is literally nothing "fab" about this camera. The video quality is so bad it makes the product nothing but a paper weight.

I went with the Xiaomi Mijia costing roughly £100 but it was a close call between this and the YI Lite. It can do up to 4k at 30fps but I stay at 1080p 60fps and the quality is brilliant for what I need. I watched a couple of videos on youtube comparing the 2 before I purchased, the Yi Lite had the better picture quality where the Xiaomi Mijia had better video. Not much in it either way but both good choices.
I bought one of these just for my commute to work and back on the motorbike. Video is much better on phone or computer than play back on camera. It's good for basic needs such as getting number plates, showing the idiots that sweve into my lane etc. And if it gets stolen cheap to replace.

More interesting info...

So to help not fan the flames about how "good" this is or is not, I tried one of them earlier (got 2, 1 for each side of my P4P) for a bit of fun...

The recorded footage is on par with all my other "1080 / 720" tat action and cam cam recordings, it has none of the graininess that is on those youtube videos and the clarity of the playback (on a rubbish 2 year old sony fhd smart tv) is not anything to be disappointed with

Wondering if the eF6 firmware written since those videos were made (from a completely different action cam brand but same factory made tat) has been updated, will try some HD filming at the weekend off the side of the yacht and try some exposure / ap changes on the camera, to see if it is any worse, than the same thing, I paid £28 for

I posted this as a cheap alternative, to having to wait 40-60 days, to get a similar thing from China for example, its sold in the UK, its cheap and it does what it does for its money, no idea why so many are getting panties twisted over comparing it to a £30 1080p 1080p action camera for!
In case andy scuba divers are looking at this, I have taken this camera down to 30m diving and it recorded fine. If a little blue in the recording whilst on a diving holiday. Some divers use a filter in front of the lens to take out some of the blue. However, a cheap alternative to a go pro
Tempted by this (reserved one anyway!)

I'm looking for something like this, see hotukdeals.com/dis…369

Wonder if an Amazon version at £30 ish with good reviews would be significantly better or not...
Sounds like its going to be subjective

Good to know Steve thanks for the review, I was not expecting so much input about such a cheap camera!!!

Not sure if I could hold my breath at 150ft to use it long enough to film any crab's!! :-)

Fandabydozzy Andy, it's getting plenty of attention on Google as well :-)
This kit looks identical to a kit I bought about two years ago branded VicsTing or something off Amazon. It's fine, it's not going to win awards but I wanted something to take in the pool, do some basic action vids with and it's perfectly fine for the money. I didn't want more, so this is good enough. Way better than what you get for a load more money marketed as a kiddies action camera (though the UI is bluudy awful).
