Viber - Free iPhone to iPhone calls!

Viber is an iPhone application (Android and Blackberry versions coming soon!) that lets you make free phone calls to other iPhone users that have Viber installed.

When you use Viber, your phone calls to any other Viber user are free, and the sound quality is much better than a regular call. You can call any Viber user, anywhere in the world, for free. All Viber features are 100% FREE and do not require any additional "in application" purchase.

I dont have an iphone but this sounds like a effective way of saving money so have some heat from me.

Does both users need to be in a wifi area of does this function ok over 3g?

It works over 3g and also wifi.

The sound quality is excellent, i'd advise the 1st poster to attempt another call.

So basically it's like skype, but far more restrictive...?

Why is it more restrictive?

You don't need an ID or Username, it just works from your phone number.

Way better.

I had problems with it as well, I couldn't hear a thing when I tried it and neither could the person calling

That is a bit of an overstatement since to invite friends Viber send a SMS to them using the carrier without alerting you. That includes contacts abroad... cold from me...

Well in that case, to use it next week I will need to eat in the meantime to stay alive making that app not free to use. I won't vote it cold though.

You could always let your friends know about the app using email.

Because it's iPhone to iPhones, whereas Skype you can use on most OSs. I suppose once the free Skype service runs out this will be nice.

Looks good! Have just downloaded it. Will get the OH to do it too when he comes home

excellent!

just installed it, sent a message to the mrs and she installed it and then we made a free call!
perfect sound quality!.............this could save people a fortune!, gonna look into reducing my contract from orange now!

I've used it to talk to my sister in America.....I guess i must be one of those 'tight people'

Doesn't Viber also keep a record of your address book on their server? Hmmmm... I wouldn't use it personally as I have minutes anyway.

Tried it and it failed

Isn't Skype like um, better?

I ve just been introduced to Viber. Just one question...... If I am in another country and I switch off international roaming for obvious reasons..... does this mean that I have to search for a wifi connection to work..... Basically the same as Skype

Viber is a great app, I can't believe the negativity on here! Yes you may have poorer sound quality if your 3G signal isn't all that strong, however, on the whole the sound quality is better than that which you'd expect with a normal call. Those who have had a few issues then please persevere with it as I had a few issues at the start but now it's great so I know when I've gone over my free minutes I have this as backup to my friends who I ring most who've also got this installed.

It's so easy to use, just install it then you don't have to invite anyone to be your contact or anything like that, just picks the names up out of your phonebook and shows a little symbol beside them if they have the app installed too.

Ive tried it again after failing a few times! Seems to be working better now, heat added.

I am using this application. Excellent

i also have viber and its okay not perfect but as in every app theres some improvements to be made, but you cant complain with a free call now can you?

one thing though, im travelling abroad in a few days, could i use viber to call my friends? and as i would be turning roaming off, would i have to use a wifi connection?
any responses to this would be greatly appreciated as soon as possible please
thank you

-good question, anyone have an answer yet?

According to the app page:
* NO INTERNATIONAL CHARGES: It doesn’t matter where you or your friends are, be it on the same network or in a totally different country. You can talk for as much as you want, for free. Just make sure your friends have Viber too.
