In a fascinating time travelling experiment, a team of historians chose to spend a year recreating farm life in 1885 with no electricity, no gas, no flushing toilet and no tractor. Published to accompany the BBC TV series, this book provides a real insight into life on a Victorian farm, as well as offering a timely reminder of how history often comes full circle

It's just a thought but these so-called "historians" seem to be very selective about what they recreate. It's all very well recreating basket-weaving and 43 exciting things to do with pigs' faces but why no rickets, syphilis or high levels of perinatal mortality?

Like I said, it's just a thought.

Thats a birthday present sorted for August. My flatmate is a fan.

Probably because they're farmers working out in the countryside in the fresh air with plenty of fresh produce, Unlike the townie working in the factories and living in the slums with poor wages and little food. Great series watch a episode this morning on catch up.

Ace series. I think it's fascinating.
Not sure I'd buy the book but good find anyway.

Yes, it's as really interesting series, albeit with rose tinted glasses. Good find.

Love this series!

Great thing is you could easily choose to live like this nowadays, without any of the negative aspects of the period (as already mentioned) while maintaining all the positive aspects :-D
