Viewsonic used to have poor warranties on their value ranges (not on-site) and even though they’ve improved the terms they still don’t inspire confidence:

“Despatch of a refurbished replacement unit best case within forty eight (48) hrs (weekend or bank holiday excluded) after initial call at the call desk/service centre and collection of defective has been confirmed. Despatch of the replacement unit and collection of the defective unit will be free of charge. (Collection of the defective unit shall be done before a replacement is sent, proof of purchase is required)”

Whereas HP and others will send you a replacement within 24 or 48 hours and you then arrange for them to collect the defective unit using the packaging that they sent the replacement in.
I sense you could be without a Viewsonic for a week or so which is impractical for many people. Personally I wouldn’t buy a monitor without a decent warranty.

This is good apart from the fact that it does not have a HDMI socket

It doesn't have any speakers so just use a HDMI->DVI cable.
