Update 2
Back for one day only — same price, same specs, same deal. Go!
Update 1
This is back on sale for £399.99 but using a new code: XMAS100

Additionally, you will also get a Logitech Doodle Wireless Mouse and three device Bullguard Antivirus software in the package for free!

Decent piece of kit for the price, especially with the £100 discount. It looks a bit like a Chromebook Yoga, but is a bit cheaper and uses Windows 10 rather than Chrome OS. Which might be a plus for some but a disadvantage for others... I'm on the fence.

Use it as a notebook or use it as a tablet, both work equally well, and with the Intel i5 processor at a decent speed too.

Features
Intel Core i5-8250U 1.6GHz / 3.4GHz Turbo Quad Core Processor, 13.3" Full HD Touchscreen IPS Display (1920 x 1080) Resolution, 360 Degree flip design, and a backlit keyboard.

Viglen were a major PC supplier a very long time ago in the mid to late 1990s. They were bought up by Alan Sugar's Amstrad group. They have been out of the public profile and instead sold exclusively for the education sector. They are a major it supplier for schools. Now seem to be expanding again.

Same sort of quality as Dell/HP. Aluminium casing and Battery life of 8 hours - full spec here store.xma.co.uk/Pro…1YR

The spec seems decent enough for a work orientated laptop. Not suitable for video editing or anything but the most basic of games.

Its a very good price for a 2 in 1 device. I doubt you will find anything remotely as good for a 2 in1 device for this price.

As stated elsewhere it is now part of XMA, who are a major IT supplier

Just received mine. Initial impressions:
Super solid build, feels heavy and is full aluminum, actually feels more premium than my work HP Elitebook lol
Fingerprint scanner is very fast and accurate, as is the trackpad
Touchscreen is responsive and IPS display is beautiful

UserBenchmarks: Game 15%, Desk 56%, Work 36%
CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U - 62.1%
GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Mobile Kaby Lake R) - 6.1%
SSD: Foresee 256GB SSD 256GB - 74.6%
RAM: Samsung K4A8G165WB-BCRC 2x4GB - 62.9%
MBD: Viglen VUB1

vig what?
The spec for the price is way beyond anything else out there. Seriously tempted to pull the trigger on this for a work/travel/Netflix laptop.

I think they are made for schools and colleges, a subsidiary of XMA, made in the UK. Just getting rid of stock I'd warrant.

fair enough. learn something new every day
I'd do your homework before buying this. Has the Viglen name been purchased by China or the Mike Ashley's of this world? On paper, it's a good spec machine and has an IPS display, (unlike lots of others posted on here the last few days.) Support should things go wrong may be the issue.

Viglen products were all built in the UK they invested heavily here, which is probably why they were so attractive to the education sector. I dont know what the arrangements are with XMA but XMA are a supplier not a manufacturer - they sell products from main manufacturers and are a major partner with Lenovo and HP.

Nice research Figger. Would be nice if someone had bought a Viglen recently and could comment on support.
Used to get my BBC B bits from Viglen.
Monitor stand incorporating 2x 5 1/4" 360k floppy drives springs to mind

Fair enough, supplied by XMA. Probably made in China.

The parts are all made in China, as are all the parts for most IT equipment, but they are put together in their fabrication plant which is in St Albans, which is also their headquarters.

Up to a couple of years ago this was still the case because one of the people I work with buys Viglen computers for schools.

Well thanks ordered one
Lol Viglen! Not heard from them for about 15 years now. Used to be solid machines
I never understand why resellers don't add information on weight and size,it's a portable

Hmmm, never heard of them either....But it seems like a good deal. I actually need a new laptop for playing movies on the TV via HDMI, running DJ software for gigs and doing some light audio editing... Was looking @ Dell Inspiron 15 5000, but perhaps this is a better deal and saves a £100?
It does tick most boxes, weight, not too heavy, dimensions, not too thick, charging, usb type c, price, decent, display, IPS, Full HD.
On the flipside
No reviews to really go on and make an informed decision.
Cash back on Quidco too
Viglen stuff is not made in the UK, hasn’t been at least since I have been there ie 2005, they are made in Taiwan

that is far from truth.

parts are from all over the world - exactly like for everyone else.
PCs were build in the UK factories.
Their hardware can be found both in educational and public spaces (schools, UNIs, etc)
Up to recently, they used to build servers in the St Albans factory (based on SuperMicro boards, etc).

Same. Will probably wait until tomorrow morning and buy it if nothing better comes up

Same here! Will see what happens when the clock strikes midnight...
Last time I bought a laptop was 8 years ago, so forgive me if the question is dumb, but does this laptop have active cooling?
What would be the more powerful laptops that are completely silent and don't heat up too much?

I am doing the same. Will sleep over this and make a decision tomorrow.

Also considering the Asus Tuf FX505DT though I am not into gaming.

The closest thing I can find is Inspiron 5000 from amazon warehouse for & £530... And maybe the HP x360 for £600

I think it’s time to pull the trigger!
On paper it looks great for someone that wants to primarily consume content / do normal work and not be very careful about what's running in the background.

I was considering bmax y13 for a present, but for an extra ~£100 this one provides:
- a brand with a record
- a much better CPU
- solid aluminium enclosure
- 2 full-sized USB ports
- UK warranty (though they say for only a year)
- no risk of customs charges
- no chance of a delivery [insert profanity word of choice] that can leave you unprotected even by Paypal (hello Hermes).
- The option for up to 24 interest-free installments that they offer can be attractive, for whoever doesn't want to pay outright.

There is still some faith involved since I couldn't find a single review of that thing... Would be good to know chipsets for other OS compatibility, if it's single channel and how easily upgradeable/serviceable the insides are.

But at least it's a UK business so returning is an option for 2 weeks.

I pulled the trigger, Thanks OP!

Just ordered one. I can't see anything beating this spec wise for 400.
michael.broomfield29/11/2019 08:09

I think it’s time to pull the trigger!

Yeah I've pulled... The only way you are getting better is by spending an extra £200+
Bought. With these specs if this had Acer, Dell, HP, etc in the title it would be over 1000°c
What are the delivery times like?
Awesome spec for the money, nothing close to this atm. Heat and ordered.
T2G29/11/2019 10:29

What are the delivery times like?

When I place the order it gives me options for next working day for £7.99 or 2-3 working days for free delivery

this or the previous AO one? this one's got a backlit keyboard and touchscreen. smaller form factor also + possibly better processor?

I agree, it is an excellent price for a 2 in 1. And a decent spec. Does anyone know how many memory slots and drive bays it has? Have googled but cant find much info.
