When I saw this in Asda tonight I wet myself... which was pretty embarrassing because it was very busy in there.
No arguement, this is the best Sauv Blanc out there. It's from the Marlborough region.
I've never seen it at this price... ever. I bought 3, it's all they had left on the shelf.

Its about time Adsa installed some toilets by the sounds of it ! Not often you get a calibre wine at this price, get it while you can, and drink at leisure.

voted hot-this is a great deal.
but not the best out there, but for £4.48 this is a a very good deal

nice wine, but i got the palo alto sauvignon blanc on 3 for £10

i had them in my basket before i saw the villa maria....and kept them there. too much effort to take out, speially when your pants are soaked. lol

The New Zealanders have a reputation of producing excellent quality dry Sauvignon Blanc wines, with Villa Maria at the forefront of the revolution. Similarly Cloudy Bay vineyards does outstanding dry whites. The problem is that once you've added the duty and transport costs for the wine, New Zealand and Australian wines can be quite expensive, even for their table wines. This means most of their higher quality, rarer vintage wines can be priced out of reach of most consumers or the Supermarkets are unwilling to stock them due to demand. Which is a real shame as £9 (before the offers) for their table wine, while good quality is way too expensive for a plain run-of a mill White or Red Wine.

this is really good-from majestic (& waitrose)
its on offer @ £5.99 if you buy 2 from Majestic (you will need to buy 4 other bottles as well)

The Ned Black Label Waihopai River Sauvignon Blanc 2010 Marlborough

just picked up 5 at this price

I will give this a try, thanks!

Thanks

Oyster Bay and Makutu Bay also New Zealand examples, usually around the £9 mark but quite regularly on offer at around this Villa Maria.

+ heat - seems to be online too - very cheap for a high quality wine.

Villa Maria is definitely way up there in quality IMHO too.

I can't recall seeing this wine for under £4.50 for a couple of years at least, so this is a really great price.

This is a much superior Savignon Blanc to many that other supermarkets put on offer (grassy/acidic),Ordered case on line with only three pound delivery which is much less than many wine merchants fo inferior products

Good value for this price but my local ASDAs won't have any stock and beware buying online as some of their substitutions are bizarre to say the least.

This is surprisingly not bad, picked up 6 bottles for £2 pop in a Gondola deal a while back. Wish I'd have got more.

Not tried this Villa Maria might give it a try, although have about 40 odd bottles of Oyster Bay in the cellar still!!

Just been to Asda in Bootle, the shelves were empty but when I asked an assistant he produced a couple of boxes. He admitted that they had a couple of pallets in the back.
Top notch Sauvignon Blanc and a great price.

This is a lovely wine and always a safe one if you are giving as a gift .... surely nobody could say it wasn't to their taste?

Asda were selling them a while ago in their 3 for £15 promotion and I thought they were a great deal then.

Heat added.

Not sure this is the best sauvignon blanc - Cloudy Bay is way better (Villa Maria is quite nice though)

They are both OK but really not up there with the best. They are the sort which you see in three for £10/£12 offers. Pleasant enough but lack the intense fruit of the best. Asda recently did 'Auckland Bay' at 3 for £12 and I thought that was better than the average of the second league.

Frankly, if you're not going to track down the best NZ Sauv Blancs on offer you're often better getting the Chilean ones which are significantly cheaper.

the Cellar Selection SB from Villa Maria is one of my favourites, typically £9.99 but often available for 20% off multi purchases. Personally I prefer it to Clouday Bay.

However, for the a mid week glass or two, this is a decent enough tipple. I bought 40+ bottles of his last year..it was on offer at Tesco and with a £10 off voucher it bought it the price down to < £4.

But I just popped up to my local Asda and the ticket was showing £8.92. Had one of the assistants scan the bottle and it was not reduced.

Excellent deal!!! HOT HOT HOT

I always have a bottle of this in my fridge =)...not my first choice Sauv from Marlborough but still very tasty and not overpriced.

First prize for me has to be the Saint Clair Premium Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Well I am no Con O'Sewer but I do like a good SB. I like this one, but especially when it is half price:

Sorry if that amuses the experts

Excellent wine at a great price, you cannot normally get anywher near this price! If you have never tried it please do, great find!

This and Cloudy Bay are our SB favourites. never seen it this cheap before.

Cloudy Bay is 4 times this price though.

Yes it is and harder to find too. I just mentioned these two were our favourites. CB is not as dear it used to be.You can pick it up for about £17-£20 where it used to be £25+ everywhere a few years ago.

Got 12 bottles of Villa Maria in Pershore Asda yesterday morning. There were none on the shelf (which only held about 10 bottles anyway) but they were very helpful in there and went out the back and very quickly got got a couple of cases for us. Well done Asda.
