Found 17th Jan
Just booked Edinburgh for a night at the end of the month for £35 including breakfast option to add on 2 course evening meal for £15 per person. it’s only selected dates in jan / Feb but a bargain all the same. Check your inbox the week before they give you the option with village to upgrade to a club room for £7 (you make them an offer this is the minimum but had mine accepted at £7 every time) happy holidays!

£35 including breakfasts is good.
Shame on the dates, but hopefully they'll continue to offer these discounts.
I was disappointed with their last sale and booked a break abroad instead.
Glasgow is my aim though.

Pleased to hear it’s worth the trip up.
Any tips for anything else to do near by?
What dates did you book? Do you know what dates in Feb and is it direct with village hotel or another website?

I went last year too and stayed at the village hotel for three nights at £25 a night. There is a waitrose near by for snacks. We went on the Britannia, walked up arthurs seat, went to the obscure exhibition which can use tesco vouchers for, didn't go in Edinburgh Castle though. Also went to the zoo to see the pandas

Thanks so much for this! Ordered club card days out vouchers today so will hopefully use them at the obscure exhibition brill about Waitrose too nibbles sorted xxx
Be aware not near town centre. Accommodation appears in a bit of a grim location if going for romantic night. Still cheap as you can get inc breakfast. Bus ride required to recognised tourist attractions (taxi fare to town and back about same price as accomodation after 11p). Can't argue with price for cheap accomodation.
I can rent yall my spare room in Glasgow .. just round from central station! :P

gonna have a look for Edniburgh for a night out! Thanks !:)
Is upgrade worth it? What do you get. Going up at weekend.

I would recommend Calton Hill as it has by far the best view of the historic City Centre and Firth of Forth, also has the Acropolis, Royal Observatory and Nelson Monument, which is worth the £5 entry for the nice experience and boost to the viewpoint. I would avoid Edinburgh Castle as it is massively overpriced for what you get to see. There is a whisky museum near the castle mind you, with free samples! The Royal Yacht is moored next to Ocean Terminal which is a big shopping mall with tons of shops, restaurants an M&S foodhall and a Vue Cinema.

The cullen skink for lunch onboard definitely worth it and pretty reasonable.
Yeah what’s the point of paying into Edinburgh Castle to see the Scottish Crown Jewels and hundreds of years of history. You could spend that time going to the Vue cinema by the hotel!

Grim Location ????
Hotel is in a decent location with about 10 different bus routes covered to go anywhere in the town, a taxi would be about £6ish
Food is decent and they usually have other offers on for the Gym etc

It’s worth £7 if you can get it for that. There’s a Costa coffee machine in room bottled water posher toiletries, sky and a slightly nicer room. Have a nice time xxx

Not bad Saturday night as well. Is a nice hotel and easy access to Edinburgh by bus right outside. Had a coffee shop in lobby and a nice bar serving burgers etc. Big pool
Voted hot for the price - you won't get as nice a room for less. Lots of good hotel prices in Edinburgh this month, though - worth checking your dates on Trivago, as you might get something more central and as nice/nicer for £20 more...
Good price, though I heard its currently snowing in Edinburgh

Must be why it's cheap
Though I don't mind
I don't want to stay at any hotel that has the kind of guests who pay £35 a night.

Personally... just a single parent taking my little boy on an adventure!!
when booking... under club room it says free access to village gym (normally £5)
but its not mentioned under standard room.... so is it extra?

previously been to village hotel and not been charged extra but havent been recently

Bit late getting back to you but @Shengus covered a lot.

We travelled via car and parked at the Herminston Park & Ride, paid £4 each for an all day bus/tram travel ticket and hopped on the first bus with 'Ocean Terminal' as its final destination. Stops right outside the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre albeit on the other side of the street. Its from within there you'll find the entrance to Britannica, upper floor. Did the tour then hopped back on a bus towards Edinburgh centre. Lothian Buses.

Things other than the RYB we did and enjoyed...

Calton Hill weather permitting, a rewarding climb. Dont quote me but I think if you come back off Calton hill via the road at the back you'll come across the Scottish Parliament building, if bagging sights is your thing.

Greyfriars Kirkyard
Nice to walk around, had a packed lunch here. Plenty other people sitting on benches eating lunch too, must be the in thing for graveyards lol. Dont forget the statue of Greyfriars Bobby which is situated outside the graveyard. We nearly missed it due to the amount of people surrounding it.

The Real Mary Kings Close
Felt I got my moneys worth with this one. The Dungeons tour I could have skipped.

The Georgian House
It's way at the opposite end of things but it allowed for a leisurely stroll down Princess Street and the return journey via Rose Street which runs in parallel. As a point of interest (or no interest) The Georgian House next door is that of the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.

Its cheaper to become a NTS member paying by monthly DD and cancel after the first month than paying the door entry. Its £7.50 an adult at the door whereas £7.50 would cover two adults and 4 children on a family NTS membership plan.

Rose Street
A nice meander with plenty watering holes to quench your thirst or grab a bite.

You'll be leg weary at that if you skip the trams and buses but nice to know you've the option with the all day travel tickets if the weather isn't in your favour. We never bothered with the castle, The Royal Mile outside it sufficed.

Enjoy your wee jaunt to Edinburgh
