Agreed. Been to two, Farnborough (twice), and Bournemouth. Eaten in the main restaurant and the pub, and had breakfast each time. Really bland and tastes cheap. I think they might have made the sausages from stuff they found on the floor. Never again, no matter how cheap!

rose2468

That price varies depending on which hotel, Portsmouth is £15

Thanks..qas about to place order.

anthony69

Honestly the food at their restaurants is dreadful. I've been to 3 different ones now, every time a poor experience. Cheap ingredients with no taste, I have never experienced a worst breakfast. And yes I tried at them all because I was hoping it was a one off, but no consistently bad and bland ingredients at each.

Booked a night in March this year, the Beast from the East met up with storm Emma, every cross Pennine Road was closed. thanks for your reply, we having a look round the green area and walks so that's great. Much appreciated. :D

Tapperway76

Fine for a stopover - that's where we're staying next too. It used to be a De Vere hotel, so slightly different from some of the others in style, but still happy to stay there. The pub food is usually good - burgers, flatbreads, wraps, ribs etc. There's also a Marston's pub just across the road which does carvery etc (The Running Hare) if you prefer.

Booked thanks a lot

You will have secured the room with a credit card. Any damages at all will be billable legally to you. If they smoke, trash the room etc. I am not suggesting the recipient will, but unless you know and trust this person, you are taking a huge risk. You also need to check specific T&C which may include the actual card being presented at check in/out.

yeah had to be that one (my nearest)!

WiZZer

We went to our local one just outside Aberdeen and the value is very, very good. We actually went with an Itison deal, two Sundae carvery 4 course meals for ₤7. The choices if my memory serves me correctly included a soup course and then individual prawn cocktails, salads, mackerel, cold meats selection, mini quiches etc. Gammon, turkey and beef carvery selection as well as a large veg selection and then for desert there was the sundae selection as well as chocolate fudge cake, individual cheese cakes, chocolate mousse and other cake selection. There as far as we could see unlimited trips to the counter and the food quality in the Aberdeen one was fine.

clare_bear1983

You can't book a Sunday on that link at my local one, every other day but not Sunday. Bit strange.

Mark5211

Its the 'kids eat free' bit that's putting me off going!

Even after selecting Newcastle on the website, it showed the offer as £59 but then this price just wasn't available. So I understand what you say about the "from" but then when you search and it says Newcastle £59 (NOT from £59) you expect that to be available at that price.

amycr

Can someone help? Ive booked this age ago and just went to check my booking as we go this Friday. My confirmation says 23rd - 25th (so two nights) but when I log in online and retrieve my booking, its says number of nights: 1.

anthony69

Actually if you can find a Premier Inn nearby they're breakfasts are awesome. Don't get me wrong, Village Hotel rooms (bar the midget size rooms in Portsmouth) are fantastic, just avoid the breakfasts!

Zimmy

It's says FROM. Let me explain: that means the price can be anything FROM £59 to possibly several million. There will likely have been one or two nights at this price, which are now gone, the rest will be more.

Zimmy

Maybe time to try somewhere else then? :/

stantier2

are there any other village hotels with similar deals at the moment? we booked for ashton last week despite the fact its only 10 mins up the road

tin

Came on here thinking.... there's no village hotel in Chester?. Indeed as others say it's a good 15-20 mins outside by Car. It's also not that wonderful but that price is not to be sniffed at!

stantier2

We stayed at that one a few months ago and it was okay. Pool was good. Restaurant for dinner was good but found the breakfast in other village hotels better. It was fine but not originally a village hotel and needed a lick of paint in places. There are nicer village hotels but for the price you can't knock it.

Bit late getting back to you but @Shengus covered a lot. We travelled via car and parked at the Herminston Park & Ride, paid £4 each for an all day bus/tram travel ticket and hopped on the first bus with 'Ocean Terminal' as its final destination. Stops right outside the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre albeit on the other side of the street. Its from within there you'll find the entrance to Britannica, upper floor. Did the tour then hopped back on a bus towards Edinburgh centre. Lothian Buses. Things other than the RYB we did and enjoyed... Calton Hill weather permitting, a rewarding climb. Dont quote me but I think if you come back off Calton hill via the road at the back you'll come across the Scottish Parliament building, if bagging sights is your thing. Greyfriars Kirkyard Nice to walk around, had a packed lunch here. Plenty other people sitting on benches eating lunch too, must be the in thing for graveyards lol. Dont forget the statue of Greyfriars Bobby which is situated outside the graveyard. We nearly missed it due to the amount of people surrounding it. The Real Mary Kings Close Felt I got my moneys worth with this one. The Dungeons tour I could have skipped. The Georgian House It's way at the opposite end of things but it allowed for a leisurely stroll down Princess Street and the return journey via Rose Street which runs in parallel. As a point of interest (or no interest) The Georgian House next door is that of the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon. Its cheaper to become a NTS member paying by monthly DD and cancel after the first month than paying the door entry. Its £7.50 an adult at the door whereas £7.50 would cover two adults and 4 children on a family NTS membership plan. Rose Street A nice meander with plenty watering holes to quench your thirst or grab a bite. You'll be leg weary at that if you skip the trams and buses but nice to know you've the option with the all day travel tickets if the weather isn't in your favour. We never bothered with the castle, The Royal Mile outside it sufficed. Enjoy your wee jaunt to Edinburgh (y)

Brownbloke11

Rapidly becoming the RyanAir of hotels where everything is extra. Extra for the gym, extra for breakfast, emails urging you to upgrade, etc. Some of the hotels have revamped rooms but clearly staff haven't used them and some have been designed by people that don't stay in hotels. Virtually no storage in their new designs. Not even a towel rail. I think they have forgotten they are in the hospitality business. They think they are in the Gym business. No AirCon in any hotel I have stayed in. That said, for £30 a night and breakfast elsewhere it is OK value. If you can get breakfast for less then £7.50 at the hotel then go for it. More than that is poor value. Check in can be a pain - supposedly self service but their App is crap and no-one in the hotel can fix it other than give you a normal room keycard if it stops working - as mine did. Also you have to type in some stupidly long reservation number if you check in yourself when the App doesn't work - which it didn't when you book two rooms on one reservation. They should use Airport reservation style codes of 6 digits / letters to make it quick and easy. Their IT Dept is rubbish as can be seen when trying to book - website really slow, and flaky App. Best to try late evening if you can wait. Used to love Village Hotels, but now there are so many deals around that you can probably do better. If you want to pay for the Gym then the pool and gym are good, but if you want to take children then be careful to check when they can use the pool as they have some stupid restrictions. Good for the gym members but not good for hotel guests. Summary: Good if you can get the deal for under 30 quid, and will be better than the Premier Inn deal, and almost certainly better than Travelodge. Pay more and you are not getting a great deal.
