We travelled via car and parked at the Herminston Park & Ride, paid £4 each for an all day bus/tram travel ticket and hopped on the first bus with 'Ocean Terminal' as its final destination. Stops right outside the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre albeit on the other side of the street. Its from within there you'll find the entrance to Britannica, upper floor. Did the tour then hopped back on a bus towards Edinburgh centre. Lothian Buses.Things other than the RYB we did and enjoyed... Calton Hill weather permitting, a rewarding climb. Dont quote me but I think if you come back off Calton hill via the road at the back you'll come across the Scottish Parliament building, if bagging sights is your thing. Greyfriars Kirkyard Nice to walk around, had a packed lunch here. Plenty other people sitting on benches eating lunch too, must be the in thing for graveyards lol. Dont forget the statue of Greyfriars Bobby which is situated outside the graveyard. We nearly missed it due to the amount of people surrounding it. The Real Mary Kings CloseFelt I got my moneys worth with this one. The Dungeons tour I could have skipped. The Georgian HouseIt's way at the opposite end of things but it allowed for a leisurely stroll down Princess Street and the return journey via Rose Street which runs in parallel. As a point of interest (or no interest) The Georgian House next door is that of the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon. Its cheaper to become a NTS member paying by monthly DD and cancel after the first month than paying the door entry. Its £7.50 an adult at the door whereas £7.50 would cover two adults and 4 children on a family NTS membership plan. Rose StreetA nice meander with plenty watering holes to quench your thirst or grab a bite. You'll be leg weary at that if you skip the trams and buses but nice to know you've the option with the all day travel tickets if the weather isn't in your favour. Just tried leeds but showing full price despite advertising the dates as available at £32.
Yet another full price con to get your email address

Argh Tommorrow is ANother day Double pain i expect.

Rapidly becoming the RyanAir of hotels where everything is extra. Extra for the gym, extra for breakfast, emails urging you to upgrade, etc. Some of the hotels have revamped rooms but clearly staff haven't used them and some have been designed by people that don't stay in hotels. Virtually no storage in their new designs. Not even a towel rail.

I think they have forgotten they are in the hospitality business. They think they are in the Gym business.

No AirCon in any hotel I have stayed in.

That said, for £30 a night and breakfast elsewhere it is OK value. If you can get breakfast for less then £7.50 at the hotel then go for it. More than that is poor value.

Check in can be a pain - supposedly self service but their App is crap and no-one in the hotel can fix it other than give you a normal room keycard if it stops working - as mine did.

Also you have to type in some stupidly long reservation number if you check in yourself when the App doesn't work - which it didn't when you book two rooms on one reservation. They should use Airport reservation style codes of 6 digits / letters to make it quick and easy.

Their IT Dept is rubbish as can be seen when trying to book - website really slow, and flaky App. Best to try late evening if you can wait.

Used to love Village Hotels, but now there are so many deals around that you can probably do better. If you want to pay for the Gym then the pool and gym are good, but if you want to take children then be careful to check when they can use the pool as they have some stupid restrictions. Good for the gym members but not good for hotel guests.

Summary: Good if you can get the deal for under 30 quid, and will be better than the Premier Inn deal, and almost certainly better than Travelodge. Pay more and you are not getting a great deal.

Just a heads up - I emailed them to check this, as I am going this Friday and was going to use it during the afternoon. This is the response I received:

"Thank you for your enquiry regarding our Food & Drink Vouchers.

These Vouchers cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer meaning we would be unable to accept this during Happy Hour.

Please note the full amount must be redeemed in one transaction."

I've replied back asking for clarification on what would happen if you buy something during this time that is included with the offer - i.e. would you just pay normal price.

Brilliant thanks!

This was the electronic equivalent of the well published black Friday ASDA ugly store opening a couple of years ago.

I MANAGED to secure a room at 6 minutes to midnight. In the future I will not bother, a positive deal turns negative due to the hassle experience. This is down to lack of management planning/forecast, "offer a deal - can we deal with the expected traffic without reputation damage?" Clearly bandwidth servers inadequate, worst of all was the connectivity to 3rd party card settlement (web payment services - 3 C's) were no where near of coping with demands.

If you go even further into next year, plenty of £29 rooms are available

Back from the Village Hotel, Nottingham and a typical Village Hotel.
It needs a little tlc and the entrance foyer is shabby. God knows why it's been a allowed to get in that state as that's customers first sight on entering the hotel!
Located in a business / retail park, but not a bad thing to be honest as it gives choices. A pub over the road and a few further on the main road. Even a Lidl and Tesco Express just over the main carriageway.
Anyone visiting this hotel, don't miss a walk around the fabulous wildlife reserve.....
attenboroughnaturecentre.co.uk/

We didn't take breakfast this time, nor an evening meal. Breakfast seemed busy enough, but there wasn't a soul in the large restaurant in the evening. The bar was fairly busy though!
Staff very good.

Fingers crossed VH's run a similar offer in December and even better if the £5 per couple breakfasts are added.
£29 was a bargain and I'd do it again here.

Thanks OP.

Since when has a 13 year old been an adult. This is a crock. The kids eat free breakfast at Travelodge ends at 16, when a child officially becomes an adult. This will cost me, my wife and my two kids (15 and 13) £12.95 a head. Chilly cold.

Why do people and companies assume a "family" is 2 adults & 2 children? My family is my daughter and I. So mine would cost £14.95 when the Toby Carvery abdout 500 metres away would be £9.49? (Not that I would go on a Sunday when the regular weekday price is £6.59). Mah. Thanks tho for pointing out kids eat free!

It makes sense as he put the approx £6.50pp at the end. If he had said £6.50pp + kids eat free, it would be misleading. By your logic he can't say £6.50pp and kids can wear socks. It has to be one or the other.

Okay if you're driving but to catch the train involves about a 15-20 min walk to the station nearby It's not a terrible walk, not too many hills and fairly residential for the most part but not something you'd want to do at 11pm say. Not sure about buses.Regards food, the breakfast is buffet style but is generally quite good. A lot better than say somewhere like Travelodge.

Quite right, it's Whiston/Tarbock Green rather than Liverpool, about 30 minutes from the centre by car

Certainly needs a combination of trains and or taxis

COLD this is the same offer they've always had, upwards of 13 pounds for a carvery granted kids eat free but it's a buffet

ive been to a few of these, they stopped being good value about 5 years ago. Now you get very little quality.

so many better choices now

the poster is being disingenuous, it's simply not true, if it was, that's how the company would advertise it and it doesnt

Think you need to amend the title as it's very misleading to say kids eat …Think you need to amend the title as it's very misleading to say kids eat free and then quote a price of £6.50pp where in fact kids don't eat free! I don't think £13 for a carvery meal is that good value but I guess for those with older kids who can eat a lot it could work out decent value

£13 for just a main course/carvery isn't good value, but it's good for the 4 courses you get here.

Agree that the post is misleading though

No transfers but can use the £40 food get room for £10 and also leave car for upto 15 days together.

I had phoned and spoke to Liverpool.

Granted I only checked for Sunday nights as I wanted to get the meal included.

Thanks

Surprise surprise. No availability when I try to book, even when they say that there is.

Now try a standard booking for same night....yep, lots of availablity.

Can't find any prices at that rate for Manchester. Sundays are £95 but all other days seem to be between £120 and £140. No obvious info about transfers to airport, so doesn't look like it's included.

To airport I mean.
