Phoenix, my favorite game - 1st game with a proper level boss also.
Up there (from certain chip shops in the early 80s:

    Pole Position
    Centepede
    Mr. Do
    Moon Patrol

    Moving onto the mid-80s with:

    Bubble Bobble
    Shinobi
    Ghosts n Goblins

    Then later with:

    Pang
    Golden Axe
    Etc
I spent many old 10p's (yes school dinner money) on this game.

    Not everyone obviously..

A haggis bridie was 12p at the local butchers, leaving 8x Coin-Op opportunities each day from the £1 allocation!
    Thanks.
I've added 600 degrees heat simply for the Phoenix screenshot.
Remember playing it for hours down the local snooker hall in my college days.
Bizarrely I came across a Phoenix original arcade box sat in a junk shop in a small middle of nowhere town on New Zealands south island. To this day I kick myself for not buying it.

    RallyX
Got mame etc but this is handy, heat
    Loved Mr Do!
Loved Phoenix in the '80s. Can't stop playing now - might need to invest in a PC controller of some sort if I am going to carry on like this. Thanks OP

I Remember single cigarettes on sale at the sweetshop, at the back of the tray that also contained single sweets such as ‘fruit salads’ or blackjacks! It was quite common for parents to send the kids out to get cigarettes.Never did me any harm. :-)

Cos the 80s is even more en vogue than 2 years ago (e.g. Stranger Things and IT)
How do I save these on my iPhone 5?

    Old skool computing.
Oh the memories roll back. Heat added OP!
How can people talk about favourite games from the 80's and not mention Defender or Robotron!

I still remember the excitement when I first clocked defender :D, would LOVE to buy an original machine, but think I need to win the lottery first

Others worthy of mention Galaxian (although that was late 70's) obviously Space Invaders, Space Chaser, Pole Position, Paperboy, Gorf, the list is endless!

Haha, I remember this. My shop used to do a 'Cig and a match' for 10p. My parents used to send me to the ice-cream van for cigarettes. My regular order was a Funny Feet Lolly, 20 Regal, and 20 Embassy No.1. The ice-cream man never batted an eyelid.

Defender was mentioned by the OP as well Space Invaders. Pole Position was mentioned by dpathic and Paperboy by essexgangsta. Gorf by two others.
No Kung Fu Master, Star Wars. Does have Gauntlet but doesn't appear to do anything
