I'm seriously thinking about asking my wife to cancel ours and reconnect it on my name as a new customer. We are paying like 40 quid now for the same service as it kept increasing over the years.

Definitely do it. They will offer a deal via retentions but ONLY when you call up and submit the notice.

They effectively try and call your bluff and won’t offer really anything on the call. Make sure your contact details are up to date and someone usually calls you back within 7-10 days to offer you the true retention deal.

The link is for the wrong Virgin package
Just dumped this service, evening terrible through put and bad speed tests, engineer said it's over subscribed in most areas?
The mods have altered the original description and link submitted etc....

But steps are as follows:
1. Click on the link of deal. This will take you to giftcloud where you enter your email for the £50 amazon voucher.
2. Once you submit your email that will redirect you to Virgin website to sign up for 12 months at £24 a month.

Make sure you take note of how to claim the the Amazon vouchers Gift cloud.

I’d originally found this deal via moneysavingexpert’s broadband comparison site so if above steps don’t work please try visiting there and searching for virgin deals. Deal finishes this Sunday apparently.

I went for the TCB deal with a SIM.
Assuming, SIMO on it's own is worth £5pm
£24 x 12 + £35 - £140 TCB = £15.25/m
+
£5/m for SIM ( 5GB + UL mins + UL txts )

Need SIM anyway.

God! That’s the kind of speeds I’ve nevertheless experienced. Just out of curiosity, how much do you pay for that kind of speed?

i don't want to accept service from a company that will only offer a decent price if you have to do all that to force them. sky and virgin will always reduce their prices if you negotiate every year, but life shouldn't be like that :-(

Same situation here, I pay £36 for the same service. I called up and tried to negotiate new price and they weren't budging at all - gave me the same spiel about new customers v existing customers.

Anyway, I will be cancelling and may just join in my partners name.

I had to sort it for my in-laws. We’re paying £118 a month very similar to you for a package that a new customer got for around £68 per month with one box, 100mb Broadband and Unlimited landline.

I totally agree, disgraceful company. They’re now paying £55 for 2 x Boxes, Unlimited Landline and 200mb broadband

Make sure your contact details are up to date and they will call before the termination date with the real retention deal. Usually around 7-10 days after you stick the notice in.

One time they called a day or so later for me

Tried. This didnt happen. Ended up paying £30pm (with a couple of discounts due to expire) for 2 months out of contract and kept calling to see if there were any offers and got it down to £26 last week.

Been a customer for about 10 years. They don't value loyalty but they are the best provider where I am so yeh...

I’m surprised. I just played really hard ball and kept refusing their offers while on the call till I got a decent one and told them what I wanted

You are Right ...
I think the upload speeds will be capped at 10mb.

Any retention deal depends on how much internet you use. My wife was on maternity leave and she streamed non stop so ended up with 800gb per month.

When it came to renewing, I cancelled and the offers they gave were pants. Well that was my experience.

Wow. So when you speak to retentions they will actually have the stats of your usage to hand? Things are getting more Orwellian every day.

They do. They tried to tell me that I needed to keep my 200Mb connection because I used hundreds of GB's every month, until I explained that I could still achieve it on 50Mb, let alone the 100Mb I was downgrading to. Our usage is mostly due to flat out streaming, mainly Netflix that tops out at under 16Mb/s but often simultaneous streams with a teenager. It's not unreasonable for an internet provider to be aware of their customers bandwidth usage. It has always been the case.

Thank you, I signed up to virgin yday on the same package for £28 a month. Just managed to cancel it and activate this deal!
For those that are able to cancel / negotiate due to end contract, you may have luck getting £22 350mbit package which is what I'm currently on.

No you just get it ported
I have cancelled as my broadband went up to £43 a month. I missed a call from them and my service finishes on 3.4.20. Do I wait until then and call again as a new customer using my name this time? Do they send out new equipment etc?
Dingdong00717/03/2020 23:44

How is this done , what is the correct way to do this ?
1. Call up and cancel
2. Sign up as new customer
3. Request same landline number as previous customer ?

Basically, goodbye im going to sky. And I went through with cancellation and they called me the day after (with 29 days left of my notice) offering this deal.
How do you get this deal/ when I click on "get Deal" it goes on amazon voucher only...
Just got to the end of £27 per month contract. Said they could offer £33. Declined and asked to be disconnected.

Why not just offer the £24 or a continuation of my £27? Such a waste of everybody's time.

Yeah,i can back that up.Even whats connected i believe too, offered a poor retainer coming up for 2 weeks this weekend. There is absolutely no way they can justify putting price up from £25 to £52 per month for doing nothing. If they havent made there money from you in 12 months or made at least something then why continue to offer 12 month contracts.Having said that i dont want to be having more than a years contract around my neck as who knows what might happen in the future. It will be interesting to see if Virgin throw there hat into the circle and do something like Sky have with the C19 taking hold.
I call them, the best they could do was £30 for 100Mbs over the phone, First they said £40 on customer services and they gone down to £30 at disconnections. I did not accept and asked them to cancel. Then I received an email from the link for the Amazon Voucher. I completed all the details as NEW customer, and few hours later I received the contract. My disconnection was to happening on the 18/04. The contract say it would start on the 20/04.... 2 days difference so they would not stop the service. They gave it to me for £24 with the £50 Amazon voucher....

No idea never set up a virgin media email when I took it out
I called to cancel mine yesterday.

i was paying £58 pm for a full package and it was due to go up to £75 from april.

girl on the phone said she could do the same package for £60 pm.

I said no just cancel and her attitude changed to being quite rude. “Who else are you going to go with now?” ”you use 400gb a month, who else is gonna give you that” “Who else is gonna come out with all this Coronavirus stuff going on to re connect you?” In a very snotty attitude.

i just said, well i have a month to find someone don't I, she didn't have an answer for that.

anyway ill wait for a retention phone call. If not its bye bye virgin
