Handset must be purchased with £10 airtime. This will automatically be added to your transaction. Handset not available without airtime.

Except it doesnt add it..

let's all get rid of our smartphones and get back to basics

was it fast track? as that's the only time you can get away without getting top up in Argos.

unlocked?

got none around north Birmingham within 10 miles of my post code. is this over now?

unlocked?

Think "Virgin "might be the giveaway lol

get an unlock code for 99p from ebay

If you pay using FastTrack you don't need to buy a top up. As far as I'm aware if you reserve online and try to collect in store you'll have to go to the tills to pay, where they'll add the top up to your order. You can't buy PAYG phones at the kiosks.

Don't forget it isn't 3G tho so 'three' wouldn't work properly.

Is that an issue with a lot of basic phones? I'm looking for something for my father who may need a very basic phone and bought him a flip phone but it doesn't work with a 3 payg sim-that seemed like the best deal for someone like him who's hardly going to be making any calls - but it's no good if it'll only work on a smart phone

Do virgin do pay as you go upgrade anymore? You can't select them from carphone warehouse anymore

Yes this is an issue with "three" you can find an old L.G. flip on ebay 3g enabled but practically all cheap phones being 2g wont accept "three" which is a shame so cheap [no time limit on sim]to and by far the best network

Can't you activate on a 3G phone then use on 2G? I'm sure I have seen this advice on HUKD but never tried it.

"Internal memory 32GB"

Hahahaha! Yeah, right.

Read all of it...

"Internal memory 32GB.
when using microSD card slot."

I agree, it's very poorly explained what it means.

You think this item is poorly explained, take a look at the storage in the product description of the Alcatel 10.16:

argos.co.uk/sta…003

I hope flip phones make a come back, with bendy LCD tech it should be possible now with android.

Honestly if they released a phone with a keyboard that had as good a battery as these things I'd jump in a heartbeat. Smart phones are convenient at times but when all you're doing is sending the occasional text the battery drain is somewhat hilarious

That's made me chuckle!

And some people still believe that paying the same amount for a blo**dy USB cable is a great deal...

can you root it with a custom rom?

Bubuka83

Yeah, Amiga Kickstart 3.1 rom

honestly i would consider a phone like this if it had like 1 month battery life

Nope!, not possible ...

2G Phones run ONLY on the 'back-bone' of WAP & GPRS (going back some 20-30+ years now?), where as 3G/4G run's on the 'back-bone' of HSPA (going back less than only 15 years now?).

Both are clear World's apart!.

That's why all 3G-Enabled Devices are all able to easily accommodate both a 2G or 3G SIM Card, and in like manner, all 4G-Enabled Devices are all able to easily accommodate both a 2G, 3G, or 4G SIM Card, etc?.

But NOT the other way round .... :-)

Some 'Proof Readers' required here before going 'live' me thinks?, lool.

I've just re-read this, hahahaha, and yes, it should be very possible, lol.

Not picked it up yet.... but going to on Friday.

Paid for it fasttrack rather than click and collect

i brought a similar phone for £10 on offer on their website went to click and collect it and no mention of the top up thing on the website when i went to pay for it they tried to add the topup but i explained i am using this phone purely for music and does not state it needs topup on the website so they checked and i was right so they sold me just the phone.

Arguably, this Alcatel on Lebara is better value as it cost £9.99 but comes with £10 of call credit: argos.co.uk/sta…htm

this phone says internal memory of 4000gb! wooo weee!! typo i think - argos.co.uk/sta…htm

I believe they probably do have proof readers, but they obviously don't have any clue about technology. Little things like 'mp3' instead of the correctly capitalised 'MP3' really annoy me.

£10 credit only lasts 30 days:

"Convert your £10 top up with Lebara to give you 500 UK minutes, Unlimited UK texts, 1GB of UK data and unlimited Lebara to Lebara calls and texts for 30 days by sending UK500WEB to 38885 on your new handset."

Yes, using fasttrack you can avoid paying the top-up with any phone at Argos.

I'm surprised to see that no one has mentioned the equivalent EE Alcatel 10.35 which can be had for £3 less. This can be used on any EE-based network including Life Mobile, Asda and Virgin.

argos.co.uk/sta…htm

The Virgin Mobile 10.35 in this thread can ONLY be used on Virgin and most likely won't accept EE SIMs, despite Virgin using EE as their network backbone.

Probably because you have to order in store and pay £10 top up so it's £14.99

Virgin phone can be unlocked for 99p
